The "Blood Eagle" is a viscous Old Norse tradition where Vikings would take their captors and enemies and separate their ribs from their spine, pulling their bones and skin outward to form a set of "wings," and removing their lungs from their chest cavity. They would often then string up the victims in an effort to send a "message" to the surviving enemies.
