History
Finch's pack had been close with a mountain pack for many years now, and thankfully the mountain pack was happy to take in Finch. However, Finch wasn't too keen on leaving, he felt like his pack was abandoning him. Regardless, he didn't have much of a choice but to go with the pack. At least their leader, Jet, seemed kind.
It took Finch a long time to adjust to The Pack of Souring Summit, especially since their leader Jet died before Finch had even reached adolescence. Thankfully, by the time Finch reached adolescence he was finally starting to feel like he belonged. He chose to train as a chaser, it seemed like the most desirable job in Finch's mind. He did find himself embarrassed by how difficult he found the role initially. He worried he would never improve.
However, by the time Finch reached adulthood, he had become a skilled and talented chaser. He even managed to make some friends within his hunting team, something he had always struggled with. He decided he had been correct to choose the role of chaser.
Finch isn't sure how he and Badger became friends. They had both started as outsiders and he guessed they found comfort in one another. He liked Badger, even if he was a bit too eager to fight at times. Through Badger, he befriended his mate, and the pack's new leader, Elk. Elk was kind and sweet and a little scatterbrained. Finch liked her. He hated that he liked her, she already had a mate, and her mate was one of his closest friends. However, it turned out Elk liked him too. Finch wasn't sure what to say when Elk timidly asked him to be her second mate, Badger giving him an approving look. Finch didn't mind sharing Badger with Elk, and it seemed Badger didn't mind either. Pushing his worries aside, Finch accepted the confession.
Finch was nervous but excited when Elk mentioned the idea of them having pups, Badger agreeing that it was a great idea. Only a few months later the litter of three were born, two girls and one boy. Finch loved the pups from the moment he saw them and promised to be with them always. He was so happy when his mother and older brother visited the mountains just to meet the pups.
Finch's pups seemed to grow up so fast, Caribou choosing the life of a healer, while Beaver and Moss chose the life of chasers. Finch felt a small bit of pride knowing two of his pups had chosen the same role as him.
Badger, Finch, and Elk had thought a lot about having another litter, with Badger being the father. In the end, they decided if they were going to do that, best to do it now. Finch was a little overwhelmed when he first met the six newborn pups. Five girls and one lone boy… Finch could yet tell they were going to be a pawful.
Losing a mate is always difficult, even queer platonic ones. Finch was heartbroken to lose Badger and seeked a lot of comfort from Elk. Finch couldn't help but thing of Elk's own incoming death, soon it would just be him. He tried to focus on how he would still have his pups and grandpups, but it was hard for him to not focus on the negatives. When Elk then passed, Finch worried he would never recover. His pups obviously saw how much he was struggling, as they put it upon themselves to comfort their father.
Finch's legs aren't as good as they used to be, and the older wolf would much prefer to lay around. When Aurora passed and his pack advised he take on the role of mentor, Finch saw no reason to refuse. Finch doesn't hate the job; he has raised plenty of pups himself after all. Teaching them life skills for a small portion of the day is frankly much easier than spending all day running around chasing prey.
On the 7th year and 6th month of his life, Finch made his way to the mountains summit. Caribou keeping him company through most of the journey. Once at the top, looking out at the endless sky, Finch was greeted by his mates, Badger and Elk, who gently guided him to the afterlife.
