Lore: The day had come. Atlas' orange gaze stared out across the camp as he sat by his mother's side. He had finally turned a full cycle old and was fully-grown. His muted pelt was glossy. He had an expression of quiet excitement as Duskveng's leader, Queen Taiku and the pack stud, CinΓ‘ed (who was also his father), stood before them. The russet-furred femme's tail wagged gently in a wide circle. "Have you gotten your affairs in order?"
"Yes, Queen Taiku," Reika responded with a dip of her head. Three young pups, only a few moons old, barely weaned, were shivering by their mother's belly. Atlas was reluctant to bring two of them along, due to their age, but that pup, much like his own littermates Aranaea and Keira, were off to different packs. Cytheria, Sylee and Chance. Cytheria was going to Nascent Flames, a pack way down in the rainforest, Sylee was staying in Duskveng, and Chance was accompanying them to Naonuma. It was going to be the last time they ever saw each other. Atlas knew how heartbreaking that was due to having the same thing happen to him and his littermates. But they were needed in their respective packs and Atlas knew that due to his decision to become a traveller, he'd be free to go visit his littermates.
"Very well, off you go, and may the stars guide you."
Getting to his paws, he took a few steps toward his father. The earthen-coloured wolf gave a respectful dip of his head, his clay-coloured lenses showing little emotion. But he knew his father. He didn't express a lot of outward emotion, but instead showed it through little gestures and gentle words. He was very stoic and seemingly cold.
"May we meet again, Atlas." CinΓ‘ed rumbled softly, gently butting their heads together before letting him pass. Atlas fell into step behind his elderly mother, knowing very well that this was the end of her journey, but it also served as the beginning of his. He had promised himself that he'd pick up where she left off and follow in her paw steps as a traveller. He knew he'd come back one day, with many stories to tell his packmates.
"We will, Father," Atlas replied with a gentle lap of his tongue against his father's muzzle.
The rest of Duskveng howled their farewells in a symphony of voices as they bid their packmates farewell.

The trek to Naonuma was exhaustive but well worth the adventure. Reika had told him of many adventures she had, including some dangerous ones that she'd experienced and followed it up with warnings to trust his instincts. If something felt dangerous, that was because it most likely was. As they walked, Atlas would occasionally have to carry Chance on his back due to their small paws being too weary to keep up with their much longer and bigger strides. Many days passed while in between Duskveng and Naonuma territories. The trio watched as the sun rose and set with each day, trekking through the coniferous forest, until they came across the wide river that bordered many other territories. The river flowed from the highest mountains, down to the Riparian Woodland, a marshy wooded place, that Reika's mother called home. And hopefully, Chance as well.
Eventually, they crossed the large river without a hitch and continued their way into Naonuma territory. Coniferous trees turned deciduous. Needles turned to leaves. Due to the taiga's colder climate, it seemed almost too warm here. Nevertheless, Atlas continued after his mother. Chance faithfully followed after as well, doing his best to keep up. When they finally reached the border of the territory, Reika paused and awaited the arrival of some of her packmates. Lo and behold, a small hunting group of young wolves came around not long after. They were wary of Reika and her entourage but were willing to lead them into their territory.
The pack itself was bustling with many bodies. There were countless wolves and even more pups that roamed the clearing. It looked chaotic, honestly. Atlas did feel a sense of kinship and camaraderie here, but nothing like at home. It seemed so organized compared to what he was witnessing.
King Ruthian approached the trio and welcomed them into his lands, warmly welcoming Reika back home. Once the introductions were done and Atlas introduced himself as Duskveng's travelling wolf, intending to visit and stay for a time in his mother's pack, King Ruthian was more than happy to welcome him as well as his little brother who was quickly swept up by a watchful den-mother.
Atlas felt at peace amongst the chaotic lifestyle of the wolves of Naonuma. It wasn't much longer than the day that he and Chance arrived, that he endured the loss of his beloved mother, whose spirit joined the stars. The pack held a wake for her that evening. The older wolves who knew Reika throughout her life, and even some of the younger ones, shared stories of her time with them. Former Queen Reika seemed to be hit the hardest by her passing.
After that, Atlas decided to stay longer and help watch his younger half-brother grow into adulthood, as well as help out around the pack. It was also because he couldn't bare the thought of leaving Chance alone in a pack where he barely had relations. That felt cruel. Even if they both called this place home. For Atlas, his home was all the way in the Taiga, with Duskveng. Naonuma was his secondary home.
A place he could return to should he wish to.
