after rosvellta's daughter had claimed revenge and taken our mothers life, she and like many others, had left their long-time home. i had just grown up in the mists of it all. i had learned about the horrors she had done and i had finally found out why i was never allowed in the bottom chambers of the castle. my mother was dead, and her own creations had risen and charged against her- but what was I left with? surrounded by countless books and trinkets, it all seemed so useless now. but i had also wished to be more aware - that damned portal she worked on, she never turned it off before her life was taken and i didn't know how - by some grace of some god it was on and working - but that's the problem, it shouldn't have, the portal to the afterlife was not meant for any mortal to understand or create - but she did.

at this point the gears were spinning to fast, the electricity that powered this castle was flickering out and fast, putting all of its energy into keeping it on. lightning struck the room, this way and that, glass shattering and a noise so loud it rattled my skull- and then, so suddenly and almost quietly, there was nothing. nothing but cold, and ice.

the portal had exploded, and everything in a near 15-mile radius became a frozen wasteland like the planet has never seen. every living creature locked in place, right in ice. we shouldn't have survived. our bodies should have shut down long ago - but we didn't. when we had roughly- collectively- awoken, we thought that just maybe no more than a week had passed - but how wrong we were. it had been almost an entire year, that we were kept frozen in place. we hadn't disturbed others, and in turn, we could not be disturbed. for the most part. this once great and grand castle creaks and groans. bricks fall, windows shattered. books rot and metal rusts. time is now catching up and suddenly. we had to leave. to leave it all behind - generations of history left in the ground, to rot and fade away.

we live in the desert now. the sun is warm and blistering, and we can see the sand and mountains from miles away. it will be a rough adjustment, but necessary. a new start. we fell into a corrupted course of power and greed and war, but not anymore. we denounce the gods we had once so boldly claimed, and we work anew to start traditional values, to seek family bonds and friendships, to live off of what the land gives us rather than taking from it. its up to us to recognize the mistakes of the past- and to not repeat into the cycle of brutalized chaos.
