Milkfroth was a fair little girl who wanted everyone to have an equal paw in the pack's work, even herself at her young age. If she heard that the hunting party was having trouble transporting a carcass, she would ask to go help. If Herbalist Duskflame couldn't find a particular herb, Milk would ask to go out looking herself. If a scout was late to return home, she would volunteer to search. She didn't understand why the adults didn't take her requests seriously, which only made them laugh harder. Her pupsitter Moondream explained to her that she was too little to help with the pack's work just yet and she would have to wait until she got bigger and stronger. But still, sometimes Milk would get so frustrated that she cried. Her mother Angelcloud couldn't stand to see her little girl so upset and convinced Dusk and Rainfrost to let her help organize scrolls in the pack's library. That was a nice safe job for a small pup and Milk took to it gladly, happy to be earning her keep, even if she could only reach the bottom shelf.
At the Academy, Milk studied speed and agility to build on her best skills, and she worked just as hard at her lessons as she did in the library. The more she learned, the more she could contribute later. And so school became her main focus. She was never at the top of her class, but her teachers praised her effort. In fact, she sometimes came out ahead of more naturally talented pups just because she tried harder. She even chose a difficult Pathfinding lesson as her last class, impressing her elders. But she continued to help out in the library, of course, being able to reach the second shelf. She was overjoyed when the pupsitters recommended her for a chaser role, a challenging job to be sure. But Milk was determined to carry her weight regardless.
During her apprenticeship, Milk followed her mother and uncles on the hunting trail to learn chasing work. She may not have been the fastest or most agile on the team, but her resolve to pull her weight made her the equal of any other youngster. She worked hard, learned well, and earned the trust of everyone on the trail. Her mother was very proud and showed some uncharacteristic swagger when it came to Milk. But that never concerned Milk herself. She just wanted to be part of pack life and grow up as soon as she was allowed to. She had less time to work in the library, but she could reach the third shelf.
On her first birthday, Milk just couldn't wait to get the party started. This was the day she had been longing for since she was a tiny pup. Finally, she would be a grown wolf serving her pack along with everyone else. It had been a long time coming and a lot of work. But that just made it all the sweeter, even if the fermented barley was bitter.
Now as an adult, Milk's anxiousness to serve her pack has calmed with the ability to actually do so. Her teammates know that she will always follow through with the plan they made and help haul the carcass home afterwards. Even when a hunt fails, she doesn't like to give up and will want to stay out until the team can come home with something. Her days are filled with work on the trail and her evenings with work in the library. She still thrills at the thought that she can now reach the top shelf. But she makes time to have a drink with her packmates after all her work is done.
