Aspenbranch was an optimistic little boy who always looked on the bright side of everything. If something went wrong in the Nursery, Aspen was the one saying something nice about it. If another pup got sick in the corner, Aspen would say it was lucky it didn't happen in their nest. If a toy broke, Aspen would say that at least everyone got to play with it first. If an emergency interrupted storytime, Aspen would say that they had the ending to look forward to later. Sometimes his persistent cheerfulness annoyed the other pups, but his elders appreciated it.
At the Academy, Aspen went at his speed and agility lessons with enthusiasm. He was a good student and his teachers praised his good attitude. It wasn't long before the pupsitters recommended him for a hunter role, which thrilled his mother Greyspirit. Aspen was thrilled too and began to practice his hunting skills on rats and other small critters he found around the dens. Sometimes it didn't work out so well and he even got hurt a few times. But he would just smile and tell Herbalist Duskflame that he'd do better next time.
During his apprenticeship, Aspen was excited to hit the trail every day with the hunters and learn the job of a chaser. Though his mother was a finisher and he was strong, Aspen couldn't think of anything more fun than being a chaser. He quickly became the morale officer for all the apprentices and kept their spirits up even when a hunt didn't go well. Aspen's littermates Mountainheart and Snowmelt also trained as chasers and the three of them made a pact to be the coolest wolves in the Pack. Aspen had every faith that his dreams would come true.
On his first birthday, Aspen was excited to try fermented barley for the first time. He and Mountain and Snow guzzled an entire cup each and laughed at everything for the rest of the night.
Now as an adult, Aspen is still the happy enthusiastic guy he always has been. Nothing can go wrong for his hunting team or the Pack in general without Aspen finding the silver lining in it. His packmates know that if they feel disheartened by anything they can count on Aspen to be hopeful enough for all of them. If someone is injured during a hunt, Aspen tells them everything will be okay as he helps carry them home. If a hunt fails, he tells his teammates that the next one will be better. Even after a little too much fermented barley, Aspen doesn't lose his smile.
