Snowmelt was a fair little girl whose empathy for others was impressive for such a young pup. If she thought another pup was scolded unfairly, she would launch into a long speech about how sad they must feel. If she thought she was given a bigger piece of meat than another pup, she would tear off a small chunk to give to them and tell them not to be upset. Her mother Greyspirit was delighted with Snow's care for others but her pupsitter Coyotepelt worried about Snow getting too stressed and encouraged her to leave heavy concerns to the adults.
At the Academy, Snow was assigned to study speed and agility to build on her strong stats. She was an excellent student and her teachers were pleased with her focused effort in class. There seemed to be nothing Snow wasn't good at. But her strong sense of fairness sometimes annoyed her teachers. If another pup was asked to try a difficult challenge, she would insist that everyone else had to try it too, even if other pups weren't ready. Coyote had to explain to Snow that fairness had to take into account differing abilities, not just equality.
During her apprenticeship, Snow went out on the trail with the hunters to learn chasing work. For the first time, Snow was forced to focus on her own work alone and let go of comparisons to others. She found it hard to adjust at first. But Angelcloud helped her understand that doing her own job and leaving others to theirs was best for everyone. Snow's littermates Mountainheart and Aspenbranch also trained as chasers and the three of them made a pact to be the coolest wolves in the Pack. Snow knew that the first step to coolness was chilling out.
On her first birthday, Snow was excited to try fermented barley for the first time. She and Aspen and Mountain guzzled an entire cup each and laughed at everything for the rest of the night.
Now as an adult, Snow still cares about fairness and will often make sure everyone has the same amount of meat at mealtime. But she's learned not to get overly concerned when something is unequal, and her life is happier and less stressful for that. Of course, if a teammate slacks off at work, she's the first one calling them out over it. All her packmates know that a scolding from Snow never comes unearned. And Snow knows that respect doesn't come unearned either, so she's always pushing herself to lead by example and work hard.
