Grizzlyslash was a dutiful little boy who liked to watch over the other pups and keep them safe. If someone complained that there was something sharp poking them in their bed, Grizzly was the first to dive in looking for it. If he thought another pup's meal smelled funny, he would tell them maybe they shouldn't eat it. If another pup wanted to explore outside the dens, Grizzly would tell them not to go. Being the largest puppy in his litter, he could be a little bossy. His pupsitter Moondream sometimes had to remind him that he was not in charge. But his care for the other pups was noticed by the adults. They said that he lived up to his name because "Grizzly protects his cubs". His mother hoped that he would be a scout like her, but there was really no telling with some pups.
At the Academy, Grizzly was assigned to study speed and agility to strengthen his weakest stats. Under the watchful eyes of his teachers, Grizzly felt more free to focus on himself rather than taking care of everyone else. There was a lot to learn and he took to his lessons with attentiveness, absorbing information at a rate that impressed his elders. It was common for Grizzly to get called on by the teacher to repeat something back for his distracted classmates. But he was still the caretaker outside of class and would help other pups study if they were struggling with a lesson. The tables were turned though when Grizzly chose a Pathfinding class for his final lesson. He found it hard to keep track of landmarks and had to rely on the other pups to coach him through it. He realized that he wasn't cut out for scouting and he was relieved when the pupsitters recommended him for a hunter role.
During his apprenticeship, Grizzly was sent to observe and help with hunting. His ability to pay attention and learn quickly served him well and within a few months he picked up the basics of all roles on the team. If someone was sick or injured, Grizzly could slip into their role and take the hunt to the end. His versatility earned the respect of everyone on the hunting team and the other apprentices. After training, Grizzly would go around to all the other youngsters and make sure they were okay. No injury went unnoticed by him and Herbalist Duskflame got used to him coming in with an injured teammate, just to encourage them.
On his first birthday, Grizzly helped Dusk pass around the fermented barley, making sure everyone else got some before he took any himself. He felt secure and loved surrounded by his family and so he was able to get drunk with reckless abandon.
Now as an adult, Grizzly still likes to take care of everyone. There's never a shortage of snacks or toys brought home by Grizzly. No bear or cougar can get near the dens without being confronted and challenged by him. There's nothing he won't do for the pack as a whole or any individual packmate. As a young adult, being sent to hunt alone on the Glacier was a challenge, but he looked at it as an opportunity to bring back things the pack needed. He was truly shocked when Alpha Silverfang chose him as his heir. No one else was particularly surprised though. Grizzly loves the pack like few others have and he's fond of saying that nothing can happen in this world that they can't handle together.
