Meiko Winter 🖤 had Seafoam Venus [G4] and Bonnilei SeaSmoak take turns leading each other down a path with their eyes closed. Teamwork comes from trust, and Seafoam Venus [G4] and Bonnilei SeaSmoak had to trust each other to work as a team!
Bonnilei SeaSmoak's brow furrowed in concentration as she worked on guessing which herbs placed before her were poisonous and which were not. Meiko Winter 🖤 watched with interest.
LORE ft. Bonnilei
: Work Horse was starting to grow a little older, and despite carrying her age with grace, and maintaining the same sturdy, consistent work ethic she always had, she found herself entertaining the thought of finally settling down in her home pack again, rich with tales of her lifes adventures. However, as she came into heat, her wanderlust awoke too, and she found herself setting off once again, for just one last adventure. It was the summertime, and she breathed in the fresh air rich with the scent of flowers and smiled to herself. It was time to make memories! She hoped to make some good friends and make herself useful by finding work and earning her keep with any wolf she may stay with.
Work horse travelled a day or so, and found her positive outlook had worn a little thin, as she trudged and slipped through the damp ground of a swamp. She had seen swamps before, but was having a rough time on this terrain. Was she really getting too old? No, of course not! She huffed, turned her nose up proudly, and marched on...and fell. Work horse had stepped off of an overgrown embankment, and had crashed to the bottom with a splat in the mud. She heard a giggle as she readjusted to what just happened, and as she found her feet again, she saw a young pup, giggling and bouncing around. "That was so funny!" the little pup laughed. There was something a little unusual about this pups voice, but Work Horse could tell it was a female. Just as she was about to ask the puppy where her parents or sitter could be found, she heard a smooth male voice "Hey pretty panda. You okay? You have to watch your footing in the swamp, lady" a handsome male chuckled and began walking toward Work Horse. How embarrassing, she hoped no grown wolf had seen that, much less an attractive male. Being in heat, she couldnt help but bat her lashes and giggle "they say muds good for the fur right? I'm fine, not injured! Name's Work Horse, and i'm looking for adventure before i head home and settle for good while i am still 5 years young" she flashed her best smile "and who do i have the pleasure of addressing? Is that your little girl?" The male chuckled again " A lot of the little girls are mine round here. I'm SeaSmoak, the stud of Villmennene, the biggest pack in the swamp. This is my very very special daughter, Bonnilei. Shes deaf because our nut herbalist gave her mother wolf meat before i got her pregnant. Guy thinks hes a necromancer and that wolf meat pups are born with like 10 legs and are gods but ive never seen that. Hes crazy." Work Horse's eyes widened. What a strange situation. She just had to know more about this pack! She watched as SeaSmoak sat down with Bonnilei, and they began to make marks in the ground with their claws. They were talking to eachother that way, given Bonnilei couldnt hear. Amazing!
" I'm just telling her you will be staying with us. Smart isn't she? Believe it or not, she invented that system. She taught us. So, you coming?" SeaSmoak winked.
" I'd love to" Work Horse smiled, and began to follow the father and daughter, stopping occasionally to shake the last of the mud from her fall out of her coat.
When they got to the base, Work Horse was introduced to the alpha pair, Marine & Freydis. After telling them her name, the couple chatted quietly between the two of them, smiling and nodding occasionally. Finally Marine spoke " We are about hard work first here at Villmennene, Work Horse" he said "We would be glad to have you. Please, take refreshment. My daughter, Hjordis, will find a party for you to hunt with"
Work horse took a long refreshing drink, and set off for some introductions with the lead wolfs daughter. They decided to stay together, and work horse began to hunt on Hjordis's hunting team. She brought down a pronghorn first try, and an elk bull the 2nd. She was really fitting in at Villmennene, and grew especially fond of SeaSmoak, and his little daughter Bonnilei. By day, she would learn to talk to Bonnilei by way of the sign language she had seen her demonstrate. She learned the deaf pup to be a very witty, clever young girl, and by night, she would wander away with SeaSmoak to learn the unusual ways of the pack, and what it meant to be a stud. The two lay watching the stars one night, discussing it.
" Its like any job" SeaSmoak told Work Horse " did you think i loved them or something? Its for the future. Why do YOU care anyway?" He teased. Work Horse chuckled "Oh, excuse me wanting to learn about the world! Don't flatter yourself!" The two laughed, and smiled at one another, before she spoke again "Speaking of which, both the future, and the world, mind if i ask why your herbalist gave Bonnilei's mother wolf meat? She seems like such a sweet little girl. Its because of that guy shes deaf, right? Its unfair. Does he really believe thats worth it, and why havent you killed him?" Work Horse stopped before she said more or was heard. SeaSmoak sighed, processing the question. "I love how upfront you are" he said, eventually "Well, he truly believes he could make a god with that wolf meat. And thats wrong, and if Marine wasnt firing him anyway maybe i'd have done more. But Marine is a great leader, i have a lot of time for him. Killing Forryst would not be clever, not for my position especially. Add to that that Forryst is teaching Bonnilei herbalism, and helped her make that sign language she uses, and she adores him, if i killed him, all of a sudden daddy's a monster and the alpha says he is too unstable to stud. Pups will fear me, and making babies is my whole career, so-" he shrugged, smiling. Work Horse apologised " you're smart, SeaSmoak. I'm sorry"
" Don't be" he replied " you wanted to learn. The world is full of crazy after all. Hey, wanna know something really wild? I heard that across the sea, far away, lions rule. Can you imagine that?!"
" Okay now thats just a lie!" Work Horse laughed "I wont fall for that!"
" I wouldnt lie to you" Seasmoak smiled, and nuzzled Work Horse. She affectionately licked his face. Before she knew it, one thing had led to another, and she was pregnant.
It wasn't the easiest pregnancy. Work Horse had to stop hunting on account of symptoms, which troubled her. She loved to work. Time wore on, and she wanted to leave Villmennene. She was satisfied with the experience, on the last day of her pregnancy though, Bonnilei, now a slender adolescent, brought her a silver bracelet, and her very own stick to write their special language with. Work Horse was truly touched. She had grown to love this family.
The birth was smoother than the pregnancy, and Work Horse had two puppies, both healthy. Work Horse still felt weak, though. There was a small celebration, and again, she was touched.
Once the puppies were weaned, she went to speak to their father. She had rehearsed what she wanted to say, but when the time came, she couldnt find the words properly.
"I must return home" she said, flatly, but looking rather sad. Seasmoak responded well at first "Well, i knew that i'd signed up for that when we met, lady. Kids!?-" he began to call the pups to leave with her, but Work Horse silenced him "shh! I must travel alone today" Seasmoak narrowed his eyes, the smile leaving his face "What? Work Horse-they are your children. What better memoir than that do you have to take back?" Work horse dodged the question " I will come back for them. Thank you for everything. I have seen how you care for Bonnilei. I have no doubt you will take care of ours until my return. I love you, SeaSmoak"
A solemn look came about his face, and with a weak smile, he agreed to her wishes. Work Horse made her fondest farewells to the pack, especially her pups and Bonnilei, and set off. She never told them that the reason she had made this decision was that she had been feeling unwell even after the pregnancy was over. She didnt want to frighten them. She also didn't trust their crazy herbalist. What scared her was the possibility of her dying on the road with her pups. They would be doomed. She had to make it back to her own pack, greet her loved ones, and have them formulate a team of volunteers to safely escort her pups back to her own pack. With the plan in motion, she decided to be positive. She had to have hope. There was only one way to look at the journey home-time for another adventure!
