Puppy Days

海豹 Azarashi was named as play on her base name, Seal, but more importantly are the kanji's. As well as using the Sea kanji 「海」 from her grandparents, Pōchōtl and 海夜 Miyo, the second kanji reads as Leopard, one of the most notable residents of Ceiba trees. Her name is an amalgamation of her lineage, the Sea and Ceiba.

- 海豹 Azarashi howled with excitement as her voice grew stronger, making sure that the adults could hear the majestic sound. She felt like a leader already. Her last lesson was complete!

-When her mother gave birth to another litter, 海豹 Azarashi didn't really think much of it until she was finally able to meet her kin. Her new sister's name was ケツ Ketsu and although she could see the resemblance between them and their mother, there was also a lot of differences. Her and 木棉 Kiwata shared the same color of eyes and nose, and the young she pup also had the same hued nose but her eyes were not the pure white like 海豹 Azarashi and 木棉 Kiwata. Instead they were smokey white rings around her pupils, fading to a darker gray.

Neither of them had received 木棉 Kiwata's mottled pelt, but both were the same muted brown color. But 海豹 Azarashi noticed that ケツ Ketsu's pelt also showed patches of gray, red, and even green around her ears. Where would that have come from? she wondered, as she had met her own father, Nightshade, and he too had piercing white eyes, a teal hued nose, and a dark muted brown pelt.

When questioned 木棉 Kiwata simply said, "She is my pup and your sister. That's all the matters to I and the rest of the pack, including 松北 Matsukita." licking the young pup affectionately. "Wait. That makes it sound like she doesn't have the same father!" 海豹 Azarashi barked in protest. But 木棉 Kiwata wasn't listening anymore and was instead greeting more pack members that had come to congratulate her and see the newest member of the Juniperwake.

海豹 Azarashi stalked off, confused and frustrated with her mother. How could she have a pup with another male? A white and red pelt caught her eye suddenly and she watched as 花苔 Hanagoke pad over to where 姫女苑 Himejoon was pupsitting, 銀蘭 Ginran sitting next to her gazing at the crowd surrounding 木棉 Kiwata. The three were kin, though no wolf would've been able to tell as all three looked so different from one another.

銀蘭 Ginran resembled their mother, 霧林 Kiribayashi, the most and had been the last to be born. 姫女苑 Himejoon also slightly resembled her but had a more natural toned pelt, lacking much of the green in 霧林 Kiribayashi and 銀蘭 Ginran's fur. But 花苔 Hanagoke by far did not seem to match, her pelt was clouded and where color did seep through, it was mottled red and according to 霧林 Kiribayashi didn't look like her father either.

It was all so confusing to 海豹 Azarashi but as she continued to watch her pack she began to realize what her mother meant. It didn't matter if they looked similar, and it also didn't matter if they were even related. They were wolves of the Juniperwake and that's what mattered, they were ALL family.

- Hunting had been good this year and with Autumn, the season when elk fill the forest for their yearly rut beginning soon the pack's bellies were sure to be full in the coming months. 海豹 Azarashi had become a great stalker, picking up even the faintest prey scents when one fine day while out hunting she picked up something unfamiliar yet inviting. She had already set her team on the hunting trail and they were currently stalking it so 海豹 Azarashi decided to check out the strange smell.

She wouldn't be long, before the rest of the team even realized. As she followed the scent she thought it smelled like another wolf but wasn't sure as the smell of fish and the ocean masked most of the scent. Just as she began to think she should head back to her team a voice called out, "Hey! Your pretty good to have found me." Turning her head towards the speaker, 海豹 Azarashi saw a colorful male wolf striding towards her along the edge of a beach.

Seeing him and hearing his compliment 海豹 Azarashi suddenly felt self conscious and shy, not able to meet his eyes.
"o-oh, well, thank you." 海豹 Azarashi stammered, why did she feel this way? Her heart was pounding.
"I'd better get back to my hunt." she said suddenly and turned to pad away but the male wolf caught up to her and blocked her path,
"Please wait! My name's Fenrisúlfr, I'm just passing though and would love some company...maybe we could hunt together? I haven't eaten in days." Now 海豹 Azarashi looked at him and she could tell he was telling the truth, this close she could see that his pelt was dusty and worn but powerful muscles still rippled beneath. Looking into his shinning eyes 海豹 Azarashi relented, her team would be okay without for a while longer.

They hunted together, making a nice meal out of young whitetail buck, and then went their separate ways, 海豹 Azarashi showing Fenrisúlfr they way through the thick fog. Her teammates asked her where she'd been once she made her way home, stating they thought they smelled a strange wolf on her pelt. But she brushed them off and for a while no one asked her anything again. That was until a few months later when 海豹 Azarashi gave birth.

But 海豹 Azarashi had learned long ago that all pups were loved in her pack, she may get awkward stares but she knew her pups would be cared for. She chuckled to herself as she gazed down at her pup, 狢 Mujina. She looked nothing like her father or like 海豹 Azarashi herself, but she loved her. Finally she understood her own mothers feelings so long ago.
