Biography
Although Chatan has been told since puppyhood that he was destined for greatness, he never thought it would be like this. His gift of second sight was a powerful gift, but not without repercussions. He is able to tell a wolf's worth with a glance, whether they will be a great asset to a pack or a terrible detriment. At first it was an incredibly helpful gift to have when he was building his pack. He managed to band together an elite group of top-tier canines who made the Hanwi pack into the powerhouse it is today.
The problem came with the next generation. One can imagine how uncomfortable it is to tell a proud mother that the pups she is nursing aren't even worth the energy that is spent keeping them alive. Chatan made the bold assumption that if he had nothing but the best and brightest in his pack then they would produce the creme de la creme.
Even though he decided not to solidify pack placement until a pup's first birthday, Chatan mostly did that to make the mothers feel better. It was rare that a wolf's worth changed over time (though not impossible). He changed the pack ranks to be better palatable to those that weren't 'The Chosen' and allowed those that weren't 'worthy' could still hold useful roles within the pack.
It's working out for now, but Chatan worries about the day a pup is born into the 'The Fallen'. One who will grow up to bring harm and destruction to the Hanwi pack, that cannot stay and grow up with its siblings and must be banished...or worse. Every Welcoming Ceremony brings a bout of anxiety and strife, worry springing up with each young set of eyes he stares into.
