Biography
During her youth, Adara was a frequenter of the exhibition fighting matches held to keep the pack in fighting strength and spirit. When she fought against the Starcaller and won, he quipped that fighting with her was like "fighting through a storm of hot coals" - this metaphor pleased Adara and amused the First One, and when the Starcallers signed the Compact together, she took the name Embergale as her title to pass on to her heirs.
In the early days of the pack, Adara was a bit of an outsider: her more stoic nature meant she did not fit in easily with the friendly demeanor of most of the pack. But the First One saw what a gift her nature truly was, and asked her to serve as a Scout, which she did with honor and distinction for several years. Although it set her somewhat apart from her packmates, Adara's dedicated service as an outrider earned her their respect and love.
In her dotage, she passed on the Scout mantle to younger and more eager wolves, and used the many tricks she had learned to better watch over the rambunctious young of the pack. After the death of Blackfell, the first Pupsitter, Adara refused to take his title out of respect for the great wolf's legacy, requesting that the position of First Pupsitter remain permanently vacant to better honor his memory. And upon Adara's passing, Kalla the third Pupsitter did likewise, choosing to remain at her post of third instead of moving up to second. This inadvertently started one of the pupsitter's most sacred traditions: that the title of each new pupsitter is held only by themselves and none other, so as to better remember the chain of those who came before them.
