Biography
The daughter of the infamous wolves, Thermal and Turf. Thermal used her and her sister, Billow, to assist in their plan to take over Rime Pack. While Billow was fiercely loyal to her mother, Steam was questioning of Thermal's actions. She had admired Bear and Misty during their time as her pupsitters, and didn't like the idea of to betraying them. But she loved her family too, including her father Turf, who was an outcast at the time, and was afraid of what her mother would do if she betrayed her.
When the time came to takeover Rime Pack, Steam helped her parents to chase Polar and Bear out of the territory. It was Steam who let them get out alive, as she regretted what she had done. All she could hope was that Polar and Bear never found the mountains again.
Under her mother's leadership, Steam started out as a hunter. She soon suffered injury, which could not be healed because the herbalist, Fjord, had fled. Turf returned from scouting one day, speaking of frightful things that took place in the desert. Thermal scorned him, and sent herself in his stead, only to experience the same strange happenings. Thermal then Steam, without telling her what had occurred. However, Steam found out what was going on in the desert, and this turned to be caused by Elk's passage form. The passage used a pond to heal Steam's injury, and reveal to her what her parents had really done to Elk. Steam's finally made her mind up, and she try to inform her sister about this. However, this was only after Polar and her allies returned, and the battle broke out for Rime Pack. Steam would eventually find Billow, but even revealing the truth about Elk's murder could not convince her sister to take her side. Instead, Billow would be so distressed that she'd run away from pack and it's likely that Steam would never see her again.
Coping with the lost of her family, Steam tries to prove herself loyal and worthy to Polar. She was not made outcast, but would continue serving as a scout and redeem herself. Although, some scars may never heal, as the memory of what her parents had done, and what she had done to help them, still loom in her mind. Some relief did come in the form of her meeting Gravel in desert, who proved to be a good pupsitter for Polar and Bear's cubs.
Steam trained Fog, Polar and Bear's daughter, and Char, Shale and Alp's daughter as scouts. During one trip when she took Char into the tundra, Steam caught sight of the flame wolf seen by North. She immediately recognized them as her mother, Thermal, despite it not being obvious to any wolf. But, instead of telling any wolf, she kept this to herself. It had her thinking about her sister, Billow, as did Fog and her semblance to the lost wolf.
Years later, Steam would become mates with Polar's own son, Cub. They would have three puppies together, named Gale (who's name was inspired by Billow), Cedar, and Turkey.
Eventually, Bear would retire as the scout Beta,. He had suggested to Polar that Steam should take up his mantle, as the second oldest scout in the pack. While Polar was uncertain about giving the beta role to the child of Thermal, she was certain of Steam's loyalty to the pack and would go on to appoint for this reason. Still, Polar was unsure if she should would have rather given the role North, had he been present in the Tundra.
North would end up revealing to the pack his destiny given by the Sleeplanders to be the true successor of Polar. Steam showed no hesitation in turning the role over to North, as she too had deemed him more worthy of the role.
During the battle against the enemy wolves as Rime was on the cusp of reaching their glacier home, Steam would be confronted by her family, who made up the Wolf of Flame who's flame had expanded over the valley. Steam would refuse to join them and denounce their decision to resort to such dark tactics for the sake of ambition. With that, Thermal's passage would allow Smoke to attack Steam and kill her. Cub had tried to retaliate against Smoke, but the latter would disappear into fire. Her passage would then join the Sleeplanders in taking the form of the Wolf of Frost and putting out the blaze.
All of Rime would mourn the loss Steam, but none were more distressed than Cub. He may never be the same wolf again after her loss.
Steam is survived by her mate Cub and her three children: Cedar, Gale, and Turkey. She was a loyal and dedicated wolf of Rime, who stood up in the face of evil and resisted temptation, even from her own family.
