As the second mate to the alpha, Deaton knows that he will never fill the gap left by Rog. He is the strength that Laura needs in order to keep going, for her pups and her pack. Deaton knows that he has a couple years left of fight left in him, and he will proudly stand by Laura's side until the Great Calling Home.
