Peleiades and Serhviel hail from the faraway land of Azgeda, where inhabitants have the chance of being born to bear a heavy burden—wisdom. This gift causes the borne to resemble clouded skies: darker coloration indicated that the borne would foretell darker prophecies whilst lighter coloration indicated that the borne would foretell more promising prophecies. For this, light-colored Azgedans were a sign of fortune and were favored amongst many packs while dark-colored Azgedans were a sign of approaching hardships and were sought during times of war, plague, and famine. Many of the land's inhabitants become mentors, scholars, or in the case of Peleiades and Serhviel, royal advisors.
Peleiades meaning "pale breath" and Serhviel meaning "to serve the vale," the pair succumbed to their entwined fates and became enamoured with one another at a young age. When they reached adolescence, they parted from their parent pack in Azgeda and left to search for a new home and a new purpose. The two crossed glacial expanses and swam through the Bering to reach the Glacier. Nearly 5 months into their journey, Pel and Serhv were anxious in their search for a home. They crossed through the rest of the Glacier into the Tundra. Just before reaching the Taiga treeline, the pair were met with a hostile pack. The two, mere adolescents, did their best to fight off the large arctic pack, but eventually had to flee into the snowdust forests of the Taiga.
Peleiades had lost her eyes to the pack and was forced to bite onto Serhv's tail to follow him into the woods. Serhviel eventually collapsed into the powdery snow, blood seeping from the large head wounds into the ground around him. Unable to smell life on him, Pel had no choice but to cover him in more snow before pressing onwards. She wandered aimlessly for two days, scenting for a source of water. She finally smelled a creek—too desperate to waste another moment, Pel dunked her head into the water, not smelling or hearing the approaching Nightblood scout. When she resurfaced, she was met with an uncertain Cereus, nosing at her shoulder. Startled, she snapped at Cereus, missing him by a mile (obviously). Cereus stepped back and watched the blood-pinkened pup growl aimlessly. The scout slowly approached Pel, grumbling amiably and wagging his tail low to the ground. Once Pel realized the scout meant no harm, she allowed herself to be led to the Nightbloods. She was greeted by a she-wolf barely older than herself: Eleneri. An aggressive leader, Eleneri sought to take over the Nightbloods by killing and desecrating the body of Nux, but the pack was hesitant to accept her as their own. Knowing the significance of a pale-furred Azgedan, Eleneri warmly welcomed the pinkened Peleiades, asking about her journey from the north. Pel sorrowfully tells the tale of her lost lover and the brutal attack from the Tundra pack. Eleneri orders the scouts and herbalist to go retrieve the body of Serhviel, seeking to honor the Azgedan burial rituals. To their great surprise, Cereus and Mardröm came running back to the pack with a very weak Serhviel sandwiched between them. Celadon 🌱 explained that Peleiades' act of burial saved Serhviel from certain death. The snow lain upon him stopped the bleeding, slowed his heartbeat, and hid him from the Tundra pack, who had followed the pair into the forest not long after the pair entered it. Celadon worked quickly on Serhviel to bring him back from the brink of death, and the following spring, Peleiades and Serhviel were able to stand before the pack and receive their warm welcomes.
Peleiades and Serhviel welcomed 19 pups into the pack together, and their legacies are carried on by their daughters Suriel and Sariel. The pair have served as Fleimkepas, "keepers of the flame," and raised many novitiates into outstanding members of the pack. They have watched Cereus, among many others, breathe his last and return to the stars, and they have witnessed the arrival of his reincarnation in The Little Prince. They will be sorely missed by Eleneri, now known as Kalmiana, who owes her entire success as alpha to the arrival of these two advisors. Kalmiana bears the promise to protect the pair's daughters as her own until her dying breath, and makes her successor Castiel swear the same allegiance.
Kalmiana breathes these words over the pair as they strain to hear her over their old age:
"In peace may you leave this shore,
In love may you find the next.
Safe passage on your travels,
Until our final journey to the stars.
May we meet again, dear friends."
Pel lays snugly against Serhv's side, listening to the slowing of his heart beats. She lets out a mournful howl as Serhv's soul slips from mouth and rejoins the stars. Laying her head down next to Serhv's, Pel breathes her last.
In the night sky, two stars twinkle brightly over the Nightbloods like a pair of eyes blinking over their beloved pack.
