one of my two starter wolves
Frozen river is mate and second in command to Sunrise. he was her first friend she made as she set out to make her own pack. Despite her bleak outlook on most situations, River always found himself by her side all the time, enjoying her company.
Their first litter came soon after meeting each other. They had a boy and a girl, which they both doted upon. They had also started their own small pack, with three other wolves. The male, they named Dust, after his dusty and soft looking coat. He was weak and frail, making river fear he would loose his first and only son early on. However he pulled through, and soon was just as strong as his sister. He was full of confidence and was assigned his own personal pupsitter, as he had a habit of wandering off if unattended. The female, Frozen sunrise, named after her striking blue coat, no doubt from her father. She had red adorning her back, a darker hue than her mother's. One day, sunrise returns from her daily exploration to find her daughter gone, and her pupsitter asleep. After a long while searching, they find the pup, large gashes on her sides. An eagle had tried to pick her up, and it looked like it had dropped her mid flight. They held a memorial, her family, especially dust, heartbroken when he found out the fate of his sister. sunrise refused to leave her cave for quite some time. With some coaxing, eventually river persuaded her to leave the cave, and he helped her along with recovering.
After the sad event, they both worked together to establish some form of order in the pack, to prevent such events and to better their pack for the hardships ahead. River busied himself exploring all the surrounding lands, And even the ones beyond. He would become this bright new packs first scout. Dust had become his little tag along early on. Both leaving for long trips looking for new places to explore and forming a very close father-son bond. However soon, Dust decided to settle down, wanting a mate and pups of his own. River cycled through several other wolves to train up as additional scouts, but none stayed long Before moving on to other tasks. After moons of traveling, he had finally discovered all of the land he could reach by paw. His constant traveling had made him very fit physically. He was the strongest wolf in the pack and often had fun tussling with the other wolves, showing off his abilities. Sunrise saw this and had an idea. There would be other wolf packs out there, who would want strong sires to bring strong pups into their families, their own pack included. With rivers agreement, She implemented her plan, and thus, he became the packs first breeding male.
it was his duty to breed with the females and did his work dutifully, despite this, his heart always belonged to sunrise. They had several more litters, and river was more than surprised when sunrise suggested they give some away to other packs. He strongly opposed at first, but after some explaining from her, he conceded that its what was best for their pups. Only 5 of all their pups stayed with the pack. Their pack had become exceptionally large by now, with a lot of mouths to feed. River had decided that he could serve the pack better by hunting with his pack mates instead of journeying, so he passed the torch to Lune. River thought Lune was... odd.. to say the least, but sunrise wanted him to be the new breeding male, and had river train him to hopefully gain as much strength as river did. River sometimes questioned sunrises decisions and choices, but he knew she only did what she thought was best. he, in turn did his best to support her, as he could tell that she was always worried about trying to keep the pack thriving, and everyone happy.
he was there when his last daughter was born. She was stronger than any pup born in the pack yet, and he was proud! He felt bad, that due to his advanced age, he was not able to spend as much time with her as he could with his other pups, but he made sure to show that he loved her. He and sunrise had both agreed that their newest daughter, Shadow, would become the new leader of the pack. And sunrise would make sure to teach her everything she knew about leading.
today was a strange day. River woke up with a very clouded head. There was a pounding pain in the back of his mind, a nagging feeling that he needed to do something before it was too late. he knew something was wrong. He spent the entire day with all of his memories coming up to greet him one by one. He relived his entire life in that day, as he spent time with every one of his family members. Dust, shadow, Quartz, Snow, and Obsidian. But most of all sunrise. He took her on one last walk, high up in the mountains as darkness rose. "Do you recognize this place?" He asked her as they arrived to a certain crag. Sunrise paused, and walked around, sniffing the area. She stopped, and turned to him. "I-Its where we first met... isn't it?" She choked out. He gave a smile as she walked over, both of them misty eyed, and she nuzzled up into him. They spent the night watching the sky above, crystal clear, showing the bright stars. As they returned to the pack, sunrise watched the little camp down below. Pups bedded down with their mothers, the young ones just barely waking up to get into mischief, and the adults relaxing from the day, socializing. "I never could have done it without you. You made all this possible." She whispered. He gave another smile, rested his head on hers, and they both walked down to their den.
As sunrise started snoring softly, his eyelids hung lower and lower. Would this be the last time he woke up he wondered? No matter. For now he was the happiest he had been in a very long time, and he was content. His eyes closed as he drifted off to sleep.
