Varus is the lead scout, a cunning survivalist and ranger, and a close personal friend to Arthul. The rest of the wolves look up to him, especially Joiha and the scouts in training. He's friendly and amiable with a refined and gentlemanly manner.
A longtime partner to Nelda, he's utterly dedicated to her and their offspring. With a discerning attitude and calm and level manner, he has taken it upon himself to teach all the pups in the pack manners from a young age.
The other adults appreciate his assistance and authority, and it's fairly clear that he has his eye on a leadership position someday, though he is older than both Maxim and Arthul. Even if not him, he seems to have kept a close eye on Maxim and Arthul's possible picks for their successors, and sees himself as a mentor to both Octavian and Marcus.
