Biography
Dimitrius founded his pack, Keepers of the Forest, with his companion, Kalika. Their first home was the mountains, an area of snowy, craggy peaks surrounded by dense pine forest. They make their homes in caves in the mountainsides. Their main prey is elk, whitetail deer, and pronghorn antelopes, who live in herds amongst the trees. Their enemies are other hostile wolves or wolf packs who lurk too close to their borders. Young adults who reach maturity can either choose to stay in the safety and familiarity of their home, or venture out into the world to start their own pack or join a different one, just as Dimitrius did himself years ago. Each wolf has a specialized role within the pack depending on their skills and the pack's needs. Some become hunters to help feed the pack, some are scouts who help expand and maintain the pack's territory, some are herbalists who help heal the pack's members. Many of the pack's members help out with the most important shared role within the pack: watching the pups. There is not much of a hierarchy within the pack. Some roles are considered more important than others, but no individual wolf is valued more than their packmates, and all wolves must obey their leader.
Dimitrius tried to avoid ruling with an iron fist. He remained open to suggestions and feedback from his pack members about how things should be run, stepped in as a peaceful mediator when his packmates fought, and distributed discipline as gently as possible; however, he was not a doormat and was unafraid to use force or harsh punishment to keep wolves in line and prevent anyone from being harmed. His belief was that a leader should always put the good of the pack before anything else. He considered himself a friend to all wolves under his leadership, if not even as close as family. He considered it his duty to protect the pack and cares deeply for each individual.
He was loving and kind towards all of his packmates, but sometimes felt the nedd to mask his own feelings or hide his problems from them so as not to worry them. As their leader, he felt it his responsibility to reassure and comfort his pack members, and to be strong for them in times of hardship. He appreciated having good friends like Kalika to confide in during those times.
Dimitrius himself was pansexual and polyamorous. He considered it his responsibility to help ensure that the pack lived on to see future generations, although he had no problem with pack members mating amongst themselves. The pack felt like a large family to him, and he shared closely in moments of pain and joy that his family experienced. He felt like the father in spirit to all of the pack's pups, even if they weren't biologically his. Raising pups is a group effort, and although he was often busy with his duties as leader, he made sure to spend time with all of his children, whether related to him by blood or not. He enjoyed close romantic or platonic relationships with all of his pack members, regardless of gender. Some wolves within his pack created monogamous bonds with each other, but Dimitrius preferred to keep things open and shows romantic attention to everyone he fancies. He made sure to bond with and spend time with his mates even outside of breeding. The line between romantic and platonic affection wasn't very defined for Dimitrius; he loved all of his packmates as their friend, their leader, and sometimes as their lover, if the mood struck him and they felt the same way. His pack was one big family to him, and he would defend them to the end of his life.
He had many children with his different mates and loved them all equally, but would secretly admit that his three daughters Selene, Iris, and Phoebe were his favorites.
Dimitrius was heavily affected by the loss of his lifelong best friend, Kalika, to old age. He and her widowed mate, Zephyr, who had never quite gotten along well due to their clashing personalities, became a source of support and guidance for each other in their mourning. Knowing that they were both not long for the world either, they began to make plans for the pack's future, including naming Dimitrius' heir as Zephyr's young but capable son, Asher.
Dimitrius' last act as lead was to move his pack down out of the mountains and into the coniferous forest, where they'd make their new home. Knowing that after his death, the pack would appear to be in a vulnerable position to attack, and how coveted their large territory was to other packs, it would only be a matter of time before they were forced out anyways. He moved the pack into the forest, where they would have much more room to spread out and roam, and accommodate their steadily-growing numbers. Though his heir was young and inexperienced, not to mention a little impulsive and hot-headed like his father, the wolf's wisdom and compassion made Dimitrius confident in his choice. After the pack settled in to their new home, he died three days later.
