Natika wasn't a good stalker, chaser, or finisher. He didn't have the aptitude for healing and he wasn't adventurous enough to be a scout. But, he was fantastic with pups. No pup that was under his watch was ever lost. Of all the pupsitters, Natika was the pup's favorite. He was able to come up with the best stories and was able to keep them entertained for hours.
Natika was one of the original wolves of Nanuk's pack. Like many of the original wolves, he was on the old side when he joined. He even formed a pair bond with one of the other original wolves. This wolf was Amigak. She was one of the pack's best stalkers. She was much younger than him and he tried to tell her that she would be happier with a younger male, but her heart was set on him. So, from that moment on, they promised to stay together, until death forced them apart. They even had a few litters of pups, though only a few stayed with the pack.
Eventually, time caught up with Natika. It was winter when he died. He spent the night curled up tight next to his beloved Amigak and died before morning. That day, the pack mourned his loss. However, that night Amigak had a dream where Natika came to her and promised to wait for her before crossing over and that he would always watch over her and the pack.
Even long after his passing, many of the pups claimed to have seen Natika or smelled his scent. It was usually when a pup was in trouble or when they were getting into a particular amount of mischief. At least once a generation there was a pup that claimed to have been saved by an amber colored wolf with blue eyes. This was how Amigak knew that Natika was keeping his promise.
