Pack History: Talon's Reign
Talon of Great Eagle was the first member of her pack. She was quickly joined by her mate Heart of Doe. Initially, Talon wasn't too impressed with the she-wolf, but Heart quickly won her over with her charming attitude. The 2 she-wolves desired a new pack order, where she-wolves would be most valued and males would only be necessary to continue the future of the pack. These 2 were joined by a sorrowful male, Deadwood in Stream, who lost his brother when their previous pack was attacked by a bear. Deadwood sired the first heiress, King Salmon of River, who strongly resembles a fox.Salmon had a littermate, Lone Feather on Path, but Salmon claims she died in the Coniferous Forest when the pair were adolescents. Instead, Salmon and Feather discovered another pack similar to theirs, but Feather was none-too-eager to return home and settled with the new pack instead. Salmon returned home alone. She did not tell her mother, Talon, that Deadwood had tricked her and her sister to kidnap them and then abandoned them in the forest. Salmon feels no ill-will toward her sire, but the 2 share a secret that would kill him if Talon or Heart were to ever discover the truth of Feather's disappearance.
Talon's most-trusted member is her scout, Wet Rock in Stream, who discovered her own mate, Sunshine in Forest, plotting to escape the pack with a pair of loner wolves. Rock was heartbroken by Sunshine's treachery, and took up a new mate later, Stench of Deadfall.
Sunshine left, because she didn't agree with the structure of the pack. Talon and Heart allowed female pairs to bear only 1 litter of pups in their lifetime. All males born in a litter were either ruthlessly abandoned in the darker parts of the first home, the Deciduous Forest, or killed by Talon herself. The only use for males was to sire offspring, and they are not permitted to have their own mate or claim their offspring.
For a time, Deadwood sired all offspring, but he was much older than all of the pack by the time Talon recruited more she-wolves. As a courtesy, Talon invited him to retire within the pack and enjoy the benefits of being an official pack member. Eventually, Talon recruited a new male, Fox Tracks in Dust who was eager to join the pack, despite his status as male. He happily encouraged each of the paired she-wolves to produce offspring, and fully believes in the structure of the pack. Though he was young, Talon foresaw a long future with him in the pack and quickly decided he may retire within it, too.
When the pack's numbers finally started becoming stable enough to maintain healthy territory sizes, Talon began a caste system within her pack. The Heritage Den is comprised of the lead's most trusted confidants and 1 offspring of theirs. The next caste is found in the Distinction Den, which may be comprised of either less trusted members or Heritage Den members' mates. They, too, may reside here with a single offspring. Next, the Quarantine and Elder's Den. After, the Whelp's Den, where the pack stud and male pups reside. All but the stud will be chased out of the pack at adulthood. Finally, the marked den. These wolves are unable to move up in rank and are barred from breeding due to health conditions, heritage, overcrowding, or any other number of issues.
Once the first hunting party, Stench's Troupe, gained enough experience to support the whole of the pack, Talon and Heart mutually agreed to move the pack to a more isolated location: the Desert. It was best for the health of pack members once they got older and started feeling the brutal effects of a temperate Mountain's winter.
Stench's Troupe is composed of Icy Patch by River (stalker), Deadwood in Stream, Salmon, Screech of Falcon (chasers), and Stench (finisher). Due to the increased aging of Stench, Screech, and Deadwood, they have begun to find replacements for themselves. Hare in Dry Field shows the most promise for replacing Stench as finisher.
Rock was able to successful continue her bloodline through two offspring, Whispers of Conch and Absence of Moon. They will gladly join the pack as skilled hunters once they reach adulthood. After the death of Rock, Stench, and Screech, Talon decided to reorganize the hunter parties in order to build better relationship throughout the pack and better feed her slowly growing pack.
Once the pack leader turns 6 years and 2 months (1 year before infertility), the offspring thereafter are named with different themes. The second generation of Courage of the Mother will have no more than 2 words, and will comprise of scenes/events/animals often witnessed in their home biome, the Desert.
