Biography
"Jurru" means snake in Nyangumarta, an indigenous language of the pilbara region in Western Australia. Many creation stories and deities take the form of a snake in Australian Aboriginal lore, including the better known Rainbow Serpent.
In the pilbara, there are two snakes: one who lives in the ocean along the coast, and one who lives in the freshwater rivers that lead to the sea. When a cyclone appears on the coast, it is said to be the two great serpents battling each other.
