Mato tapejuta

Mato was born on a day in late summer.  The smallest of her litter, she possessed little skill that would make anyone notice her.  As a tiny pup she cried too much, and when she finally found her legs, she was too timid to compete in the wrestling games of her brothers and sisters, and did not earn her name within the pack.  Instead, she started following the old herbalist, Plaguewalker, around.  She tried to hide, but he quickly smelled her, finally mentioning that if she really wanted to know about the plants all about them, she best come out so he could teach her.  From that day onward she found her name, which means “osha plant” and her calling.

On 11/20 Mato met a new friend, a fox that was hanging around the herbalist cave where she and her mentor lived.  It didn’t look very well and kept sneezing.  Confused and concerned, she offered the fox a place to stay for the evening, in a hollow near the cave.  She also brought him herbs to help with his congestion.  

When she returned the next morning, the fox was dead.  Mato realized whatever it had was more serious than she thought.  Scared, she went back to tell her mentor, Plaguewalker, what had occurred.  But it was too late, Mato contracted distemper!  Luckily Plaguewalker knew just what to do for the young pup, and she learned a valuable lesson that day.

12/15 Became pack herbalist after the passing of Plaguewalker, her mentor.  First diagnoses was for Buttermilk, who had diarrhea.
