While out exploring her territory, Laika stumbled upon a young wolf one summer day. He appeared to be in good health but was completely alone and had no answer when asked where his pack was. Laika offered the wolf, Phliskin, a place in her pack if he wished to make the journey home with her. He accepted. They traveled home with little incident, which allowed them to return before the full moon, when all manner of strange creatures stalk the darkness if one strays too far from their den. That full moon night Laika left her pack to their celebrations to fulfill her duty as pack leader. She slipped off to sleep, quickly finding herself in the realm of dreams. She set off to discover what she could of this strange world and to defend any of her pack who drifted off to sleep that night. She passed by many familiar sights, greeted some friends old and new alike, and collected any useful materials or information to bring back to her pack. Just as she could begin to sense the first light of morning she heard a yelp coming from further down the path. She rushed forwards, fearful that it would be one of her pack accosted by some dangerous creature. Her fears were not quite correct. She leapt over a fallen log to find one of her pack, Phliskin, standing face to face with a snarling badger, a small rumpled owl fledgling behind him. As she watched he lunged forward snapping at the badger. It reared back and he continued to press forward. Laika, with her years of experience, could see the creature's shift in position and began to call out, but not before the badger feinted to the side and leapt forward, burying its teeth into Phliskin's neck. Laika rushed forwards, feet swift and teeth sharp, and forced the badger free. Sensing a much more powerful enemy it fled into the trees. Laika turned to Phliskin with a mournful whine and helped him into the more comfortable position he was struggling to reach. His wound was bleeding fiercely and she knew even with her herbalist's talented paws he was likely beyond saving, it was after all a wound to the spirit not the body. A quiet flutter caused her to turn her head to find a beautiful long feathered owl had landed next to the fledgling who was still on the ground. Large eyes observed Laika and the pup at her feet and it exchanged a few quiet word with fledgling. They then turned back towards the pair of wolves and approached with a few gentle hops. Laika pinned her ears in warning, squaring her paws. "Peace, wolf of sun, I wish only to help." the owl said in a lilting voice. Laika could sense no deception and so stepped aside, allowing the owl to step forward again and extend a wing over Phliskin's limp form. "A life saved is a life given. Wake young wolf and be whole." Just then the sun crested the horizon and the world of dreams faded. Laika woke in her den and immediately jumped to her feet, disturbing Cinder who had settled down to sleep away the day now that the full moon had set and they were once again safe to dream. She rushed from the den to find Archie pacing outside. He led her to the herbalist's den where Phliskin was just beginning to stir. When he finally opened his eyes both Archie and Laika took a step back in shock for they were no longer grey but a gentle shade of violet.
From then on, every full moon, Laika had company in the dream realm, as Phliskin trotted besides her his fur glowing as blue as eveything else around them.
