Shallow Water

From the moment she was born, Shallow Water had been told by her mother that she would make a fine leader if she was chosen. That grooming lead her to become serious about her future and she spent very little time interacting with the other pups. She wanted nothing more than to make her mother proud and catch the eye of her pack leader. 

Her attempts guided her out into the wilderness, where she found a strange creature with a short tail and a long main, a horn sticking out of its head. She brought this strange creature back to the pack to show off how amazing and outlandish it was. 

But it was too late. Shallow Water discovered that White Slash had already approached a much younger pup whose name was Scarlet Wish to become the leader of the next generation. This left Shallow Water feeling like a failure and an outcast, uncertain of her future. 

But then, her leader surprised her in a different way. He approached her, keen black eyes studying her carefully. 

"Shallow Water, I have heard rumor of your skill and talents, along with the things you have been told all your life. I know you must be very disappointed, but I have a task for you, young one. Scarlet Wish will need great scouts with great talent. I believe that you, with your lust for adventure, would handle this job well. So I ask you, will you take on the mantle of Scarlet Wish's head of scouts and wander the land, getting to know every crevice for her sake?" White Slash inquired. 

The first emotions she felt were disdain and dislike. She should be leader, not some scout in employ of Scarlet Wish. But as she thought about it, the offer in and of itself was actually not a terrible one. At least it gave her some authority. 

So Shallow Water bowed her head respectfully to her leader. 

"It shall be done," she said.
