In lore, Flickering Dawn is Tuttu's brother. They left their pack together, but became separated. After a few months of searching for her, Flickering Dawn finally found her. She was now the mate of a powerful alpha named Nanuk. Nanuk greeted him warmly and invited him to stay with the pack. Nanuk said he would even allow him to take a mate and breed if he so wished. However, Flickering Dawn shyly informed him that even though he greatly desired pups of his own, he would never produce them because he preferred males over females. In fact, that was one of the reasons that he and Tuttu left their pack. That pack's alpha did not accept wolves that chose to become mates with wolves of the same sex. Flickering Dawn and Tuttu left, hoping to find a pack that would welcome them and accept Flickering Dawn for who he is. Nanuk was dismayed that anyone could ever treat such a kind wolf in such a manner and promised that he would never banish Flickering Dawn for loving any wolf, regardless of their sex. To solve the problem of Flickering Dawn never having pups, Nanuk suggested that he become a pupsitter. This way, he could still be around pups even if he is not their father. With this, Flickering Dawn knew he had found his home.
