Biography
A member of the Shards, whom Polar had originally hired to be the first to give birth to pups within the pack. Thermal had a dubious air about her, hosting a secret plan to takeover Rime Pack using her pups as pawns. Turf was her mate at the time, and she had instructed him to scout the lands for new territory, only for him to be discovered and made outcast for insubordination, and assaulting Polar's beloved Bear. Despite this, they would continue conspiring together, along with Sedge, a former member of the Shards.
Thermal was a masterful manipulator and abuser. She would frequently try to upstage Shale during hunts, with Sedge supporting her. She treated Bear and Misty poorly, even as they were caring for her pups. She was openly disrespectful and condescending towards Polar, slandering against her decisions in a ruthless attempt to make Polar out to be a bad leader. And while she appeared to love her daughters, Billow and Steam, her sole intent was to use them to take over the pack, and she would make them feel they had no choice other than this.
When Elk passed away, it was decided that she would take his place as scout. Polar rightfully judged that Thermal was stirring trouble for the other Shards, and determined it was best she was moved to a position where she could not be forced work with other wolves. However, Thermal was still allowed to bring her daughters along to train. And little did anyone know that things going according to plan for Thermal, for she had conspired with Turf to kill Elk and take his role.
In her past, Thermal was a wandering wolf just like Polar who met with Tala in the mountains. She refused to go where Tala had instructed her, and was set to dwell in the warm, south lands. However, Thermal was offered a chance to join a pack, only this pack resided in the cold, harsh, northern lands. Still, she thought she might take control and force the pack to move to the southern lands. But her plan was thwarted when a wolf caught her attempting to set a trap for the leader. Thermal was chased on sight, and ended up in the mountains, where she was found by Polar. Thermal saw that Rime Pack was naive and unsuspecting, so she knew it was easy gain. She would convince wolves to take part in her scheme, and with the promise of bearing pups for herself, she would use them to gain power and strength in numbers.
With careful planning, she and her allies staged a successful takeover of Rime Pack. Thermal proved to be a poor leader, continuing to mistreat her daughters (especially Steam), and rejecting Turf's offer to pair bond with him while constantly sending him out to scout heat and dread of the desert. But this would ultimately lead to Thermal's downfall. A visit from Elk's passage form caused her to let her guard down against Polar. By sending Steam in Turf's stead, her daughter discovered what she and Turf had done to Elk. Once Polar returned to the mountains, Steam sided with her, while Billow was so distressed from learning the truth about Elk that she ran away. Then, as Thermal confronted Polar and nearly won, Turf took her life as revenge for her rejection of him. Rime Pack suffered great loss that day, all because of Thermal's ambition. To this day, she is known as the "heat which melted frost."
Recently, evidence has pointed to Wolf of Flame, a being that both Polar and North have been encountering in their dreams, is actually Thermal's passage. This dangerous wolf threatens to engulf the tundra in flames and frost so that Rime cannot reach the Glacier. In order to defeat her, Rime must appoint their own Moonspeaker, that being Ravine.
