Selena

Hidden; a secret never to be told.

At first, when Slate disappeared no-one was worried; it was her habit, after all. Then days turned into weeks, and weeks into a month. Only then did Hemlock allow worried wolves to search for her daughter.

They never found her, and some wolves never returned. The ones who did spoke of a place where the snow never melted, fire burned in the sky, and the moon was too big and hung beneath the cloud. Hemlock laughed and dismissed these reports, even though they were coming from her most trusted wolves.

But eventually... No-one is sure what compelled Hemlock to look for her daughter, seeing as she had cared little when she vanished, and seemed glad she was gone. But search she did, going up into the mountains where it was whispered strange things were happening in the peaks. When she came back she was gaunt and wild eyed; many wolves thought she was a ghost for a moment, until they caught her scent. And saw Selena wriggle and yelp in her grasp. She said that Selena was her grand-daughter, but has never explained or spoken of what happened in the mountains.

She grew up somewhat isolated, due to being the youngest pup at the time and her strange appearance. Hemlock was strict with her, and often unfair, an experience that left her with little self confidence. Which is a big problem, as she took up leadership of the pack after Hemlock unexpectedly died when Selena was barely an adult.

Selena has done well enough, but she isn't as present in the lives of the pack as Hemlock was. Some find this a relief, while others get frustrated when she spends much of a day fighting threats to their territory instead of organising hunting patrols or helping with the pups. She often finds herself torn between acts of glory which she believes will make her seem worthy in the eyes of her doubters, or being amongst the Snow Sparks in their day to day lives.

She tragically died in a fight when her pup, Chatoyancy was still young.
