Biography
"The mighty mountains protect the Red Marauders from the cold, harsh winter storms of the north. Few wolves cross these mountains because what lies beyond is told to be nothing but a wasteland of snow and endless darkness. Which isn't actually true, unless you climbed to take a peek at the wrong time of year, which is most likely how these stories came to be. In reality "the Northside" isn't necessarily teaming with life, but it's not uninhabited. In fact wolves have thrived on the Northside for generations and evolved specialized genetics; their fur is a lot denser to keep in the heat, their paws a bit bigger and flatter to walk through snow with silent ease, but most distinguishably are their long fangs. On the Northside prey usually comes in the form of rabbits or other burrowing mammals, to hunt them you have to rely on stealth and the element of surprise. By having extra long fangs you ensure that when your surprise attack lands, it strikes deep and gets a good, lethal grip.
Most areas on the Northside are open tundra and frozen oceans, the wolves may have their specialized paws to help cross deep snow better than normal wolves, but these evolutions also holds true for the prey. A chase is never worth it so if a surprise fails, the hunt is usually forfeited. There are however lots of boreal forests around the mountain bases where hunting smaller prey is ideal. It is rare for caribou to venture into these forests as they know wolves inhabit them but whenever a young foolish buck comes along, a lucky pack won't have to go hunting for weeks! The cold keep meat freshly frozen for a long time, meaning one big carcass is a well earned vacation. If you can defend it."
The packs on the Northside are scattered and few in numbers. Most packs aren't big enough to even be called a pack, but the less mouths you have to feed; the easier it is to feed them all. So when two wolves find each other they either stick together, or kill each other for food. (Cannibalism is uncommon and only happens if wolves are desperate.) Luckily Still and Silver are the former. They've survived together since adolescence and thrived off of each other's strength.
Silver was born blind in sight, but not in mind. He may never know what the world looks like, but he knows what it feels like. He senses every living being and soul around him and as if seeing without sight. This has lead to Stil and him becoming masters at hunting. If focusing, Silver can sense prey almost a mile away, although very faintly. When close, he knows exactly where they are and even what they're doing. Despite these amazing skills, living in the harsh unforgiving north was tough.
Their goal ever since he can remember was to get past the mountains and beyond to a better world, and Silver made climbing those mountains all the more difficult. Paths one could have climbed were impossible for a blind wolf. He wanted to tell Stil to leave him behind, go find a new life beyond the mountains while there was still a chance, but they both knew he would never survive on his own. And so he was determined to do all he could to see that dream come true, if only for her sake. And one day, they did, almost starving in the process, but they made it and the world on this side of the mountains was indeed vastly different..
After a couple days they ran into their first wolf encounter, a pack Silver instantly did not like. He and Stil had come across other wolves before on the Nortside, but none like these. Their aura were.. Different, and he wasn't sure if it was a good or bad type of different. He tried telling Stil that joining them was a bad idea, but she was too eager to meet wolves that apparently also looked quite different. Silver soon came to understand that this strange aura he senses from these wolves are what all wolves south of the mountains sense like. At lest this made it easier for him to find Stil in the sea of souls the pack's tribe held. Never had they been around so many wolves all at once, and Silver couldn't read any of their feelings or intentions, he despised this place.
Blind pups born in the Red Marauder tribe never survive into adolescence, but in Silver's case it's an actual blind adult, and the tribe is so very curious. They thought for sure he had been nurtured and was therefor a weakling, not a worthy marauder. Seeing him do most tasks normally like walk, and let alone run, without fumbling or stumbling over every rock left the tribe second guessing their early judgements.
Truth is; Silver doesn't go anywhere without Stil, or any wolf, taking the lead. By focusing on their soul and sensing their movements, following them perfectly, does he insure he won't step anywhere he shouldn't. If they are running and the lead wolf takes a small jump, he does the same, successfully leaping over bad terrain. In Stil's case he is so in tune with her that she no longer needs to tell him why she is lifting a paw further to walk over a twig, he senses it directly from reading her aura. Following other wolves is a gamble however, either he will end up looking like a fool following all their motions precisely, or he have to make a guess if every motion really is necessary and risk bumping into a rock or two. Luckily he have decided he will probably never trust these strange wolves, even if he and Stil are now one of them.
Stil wanted to become a raider, as that seemed to be the only position they would be useful to the tribe, and therefor be allowed to stay without being harmed. And raiders they became, soon working their way up to the very elite top of raiders thanks to their unfathomable success rate. In the beginning Silver went for prey he and Stil used to hunt, rabbits and alike, but after being punished and such prey being referred to as "worthless", he quickly learned the large prey is what to go for, no matter how dire the situations are.
He never bothered with large prey on the Northside as Stil was never able to take one down alone, but here they have a full pack behind them, ready to take chase as soon as one was within range. He have to admit eating premium meat is unlike any other, but he still refuses to learn the regional language or socialize with anyone but Stil. He does not trust them until he can get a good reading on their strange auras and, without words, know their intentions.
