Vandelian

He who is guided by shadows. Vandelian used to be a normal wolf when one new moon, the Voidcaller was born. His senses awakened and he knew his life's goal. He was the Darkened Soul, guardian of the Voidcaller.

Except the Voidcaller wasn't in his pack, he had to leave his home to track them down. Eventually he stumbled upon the pack of Silverfell. Which he could sense will soon be chaotic as the elderly leader gets ready to pass on. What a confusing bunch of conflicted interests. He knew that no matter what happens, Vandelian would protect the Voidcaller at any cost.

There are several wolves of interest, the Starbound Queen, the Moonchosen, The Voidcaller he came for. Some sort of gathering of these wolves appears to be taking place. But of what event?

He witnessed the turning point of the pack when the howling of Mystriel began. He bowed his head, listening to his Voidcaller carefully. He noticed the Voidcaller grow darker and the pressure drop as the void came to their prayer. He didn't understand what was happening but knew that it was important that he be there. He can feel the void tug on his fur. But as long as he was there, the darkness stayed away.

Each wolf that passes, seems to make Vandelian darker. The Voidcaller gains a shade to her shadow. Vandelian is finally understanding his purpose. He protects the Voidcaller from both physical threats and spiritual. He is her anchor to this world. Should the void try to claim her as well.

 There is this one wolf, who appears to be a shadow. Silently, ever so watchful they hover around. Perhaps one called by the void? They don't seem to be threatening. They just sit there, speaking quietly to themselves. Vandelian recognizes her voice to that of Mystriel although she has passed the resemblance is there. 

One day, Vandelian was playing tag with Shusanna, but unlike the shadows she calls, upon accidentally running into this one, the shadow did not dissipate. Rather it was solid and warm. Vandelian helped in shock. This was a real wolf! 

He felt bad, and rather enjoyed the wolves quiet company. He's never had a friend besides Shusanna. They seem like they would get along well!

Shusanna has been down as of late. She's subjected to a lot of death as well as the heavy burden of Voidcaller. She hasn't even reached her full potential. Vandelian wants to make her feel better and take on some of the burden. He's the adult afterall. He hates how the prophecies and adults make mere pups into heroes and subject them to such responsibility that they aren't even ready for.

Now that his Voidcaller is grown up, she confides in Vandelian more often about deeper things like Bayos being evil and Voidbreak headed for evil. He already suspected as much from Bayos but there's no word on Frossen. Which concerns him more.

Speaking of the devil Voidbreak, the large wolf has been drawing nearer and nearer to him. Except not in a friendly way. His eyes glaring deep into Vandelian's soul. He could feel something tugging on him and it roots him to the spot. Every time the wolf comes near, the tug is harder, the wolf grows darker as if feeding on his energy. Vandelian has to do something, this is the threat that he was born to defend Shusanna from.

Vandelian was met by a wolf made of light in a dream. She was gentle and kind but ruthless in a way. "Keep the balance. When the time comes this sword will keep your Voidcaller safe and the prince of shadow shall be saved as well." Upon waking up, Vandelian tasted fire. He felt lighter and a blinding light came when he opened his mouth. He was blessed by the Lord of light and was ready to defend his Voidcaller.

His mate, Athala, wanted to have a puppy and after a compromise, they adopted Aetherius. Aetherius is a very trusting pup. Too trusting for his own good. He is socializing with Vandelian's enemy. He will have to watch them and make sure they don't get hurt. But Voidbreak seems to also be interested in the pup. Perhaps he is trying to turn the pup against Vandelian?

Vandelian feels betrayed. His pup indeed went to join the enemy. Has Vandelian been to hard on the pup? He has only been apart of the pack for two rollovers. This event only served to fuel Vandelian's hatred towards the Shadowborn.

Since the Shadowborn has been laying low, Vandelian got distracted and stopped training to provide for his mate. He has become laid back and slowly he lost his skills and drive. The Voidcaller is safe, his mate is safe. The Shadowkin are too busy tending to their needs to pay any attention. It's a time of peace, or so he thought. As Queen Agethern grew old, the Shadowkin made their move, while they don't seem inclined on killing anyone, they did not hold back in power. Vandelian was defeated by one of the leaders of the Shadowkin pack. He was taken by one he forgot about. One of the powerful three and younger brother to Hawks and Sparrow. He was spared but Vandelian knew that he failed. He did worse than fail, he wasn't even seen as worthy to be even looked at by the Shadow King himself.

While Vandelian was angrily sulking about this, he was approached by a familiar wolf. The wolf has grown and was much larger than Vandelian but he still had that friendly knowing gaze. It was his adopted son. Aetherius who befriended the Shadowborn with his endless charm. Seems he still thought Vandelian as a father afterall. With nothing else in life, he was glad that Aetherius still accepted him.

When Athala died begging to be remembered, Vandelian realized how helpless he was. He can only fight physical threats and he is getting too old to do that. Soon he will die, and the Voidcaller will be left defenseless. Voidbreak could be waiting to outlive Vandelian before he finishes the job. Vandelian can't do a thing to stop him. He can barely lift the sun sword. The void called him, he can feel it. He did his job long enough. He had failed. But perhaps it's not bad, maybe he will get a second chance in another life.
