Hyeummbatt (High-um-bat)
-The Everwalker Bold-
Hyeummbatt was next in succession to The Everwalker, Evagie. This rugged and impulsive wolf had been leading the pack's scouts for most of her life- from the moment she joined the pack to the moment of her retirement. She was clever, but head-strong, and many averted theur gaze so that she might not glower in their direction.
She was proud, but a good wolf. She brought back the blind Yumii to the Pakkyon, after finding her in the Tundra. The hard-hearted scout was one of the first to mourn when the puppy passed away.
She refused to pretend to smile and celebrate the passing of Evagie, but was known to be greiving the old wolf, whom she respected.
When Evagie passed, the title was meant to pass on to Hyeummbatt, but she refused; ever prideful. She would not retire and be doted on until she could no longer walk or run or fight. So she buried herself in her scouting duties, while her packmates waited respectfully for her retirement.
Two years later, Hyeummbatt turned 7. Her daughter, Marsoolbatt, became old enough to inherit the title Hyeumbatt had clung to for so many years. The pack looked to her expectantly, and Hyeummbatt looked in turn to her daughter. Ever impatient was young Marsool, ready to feel the grit of the world beneath her still-soft paws. Marsool looked to her expectantly, along with their eager Pakkyon.
Hyeummbatt felt some resentment towards her daughter. Who was she, to steal her work and take her position? A daughter who wished to de-throne her own mother. How dare she? If not for the world calling her closer to a dark grave, Hyeumbatt would have likely refused again. She did, in fact. She decided to take a trip to the Tundra, her favourite of places.
The fog was heavy this day, and the air cold. Had it ever pierced her bones like this before?
But, the flowers swayed, and the fields danced in the breeze. Hyeummbatt sat in her spot, simply watching it all...
This serene moment was interrupted slightly, when a member of the Pakkyon happened upon the old wolf. Rhokie. Hyeummbatt was not a fan of pack politics, but if given a choice between the Pakkyon leader and the Pakkyon Heir... she knew who she preferred.
Rhokie was a kind wolf, and very understanding. She had joined Hyummbatt before upon her mother's request, since she would one day walk in worlds. Funnily enough, more of the Pakkyon called her the Worldwalker. Rhokie had never liked it and Hyeummbatt had admired her foolish humblness. 'Batt had grown used to her, preferred her even to her own daughter. Shame struck her. How could she enjoy this Heir to her own? Was she so lost to her pride...?
But it was the kind Rhokie who joined her. Not Glacieus, or Marsoolbatt. It was Rhokie. And they sat in that feild for a while, simply enjoying the company they shared. Before long, Rhokie asked about Hyeummbatt's life: before the Pakkyon and during it. After it. And the old, sharp, heart-hardened wolf shared it. Everything she'd ever done, and every thought she'd had. From the cold hate of her mother to the warm love the sun showered on her. How she felt the sunlight in her when her puppies joined the world and wished she'd been near them more. From the begginning to the end.
And after, she felt the cold cut through her. Her bones ached and her sunlight was dimmed. The earth was whispering now in her ear. The Worldwalker pressed her nose to the old wolf's ear and 'Batt leaned into her. The young wolf's body was warm and her blood was new. So much of the world Rhokie had yet to see. Hyeummbatt knew that Glacieus thought her daughter to have some kind of magical destiny. To walk in the dreamworld and the living world, being leader all the way.
