Granite and Togo were born to be sled dogs, the duo became well known for their skills and their abilities to lead the team. Granite was the lead dog, she kept everyone motivated to run even through the harshest of conditions. During a race they had been hit by a blizzard which had knocked them all loose from the sled. All dogs had been separated from each other, Granite had only been able to find her brother unconscious covered in snow. When Togo finally woke up they continued their search for their team. On their search they came across a scout, both had quickly taken a defensive stance immediately, preparing for whatever the outcome would be. The scout approached them carefully but Granite didn't sense any hostility. When they finally relaxed the scout, noticing the harness, had asked them what they were doing out in the woods alone. After Granite explained their misfortune, the scout asked if they would like to return to their pack with them until they found their team and home. They gratefully accepted the scouts invitation and had taken shelter with the pack for a few days, going out with the scout in the hopes they would come across another from their team. As time went by they had become apart if the pack and decided to start carrying their own weight. They decided to join the hunting team, getting acquainted with their new team

Granite was nominated by her teammates to be hunting captain due to her ability to hold everyone together and calm the tension, if any, among her team. After first being welcomed into the pack, Granite was on edge for weeks. Terra was the first to try and calm Granite's worries. As Terra and Sunset taught Granite the ways of the pack, later teaching her their hunting routines. Granite saw them as older sisters, while they also treated her as if she was their little sister.
