Deca

Terms: "Focus": the term used to describe the specific role an adolescent trains in

Puphood: Deca was born outside of the pack and adopted through Lillemor by Hunter Elk and Herbalist Callum. As a pup, he tackled any task with determination. He would follow through with anything he set his mind to, and worked tirelessly to get tasks done. Callum believed he would make a good herbalist, but Elk argued that with Deca's strength and size, he would do better as a finisher. However, due to pack rules and traditions, Deca would speak to Remus at the end of his puphood to determine what focus his training would take.

Adolescence: Deca decided that the best use of his talents and abilities would be as a finisher. He entered training with his three friends: Selena, Sebastian, and Selim. For the first week, they trained together to learn hunting basics and pack laws. Then, they went their separate ways to work on their focus. As his training went on, Deca slowly drifted apart from Sebastian and Selim. He took his training seriously, almost too seriously. He frequently came back with wounds from attempting a risky move or pushing himself too hard. So, he ended up in the herbalist den most of the time. Deca became closer to Selena as she treated him. Eventually, Deca started going to the herbalist den just to talk to Selena. Sebastian and Selim became jealous, angry at Deca for abandoning them. Selena was still friends with the two of them, but she spoke to Deca more, which didn't help the situation.

The rest of Deca's adolescence was tense, as Sebastian and Selim began to bully him. It wasn't that bad, just snide remarks here and there, tripping him as he walked past, or dirtying his pelts. They knew he wouldn't fight back. Selena tried to get them to stop but they wouldn't, and Deca assured her that it was fine and he could handle it.

At 11 months old, it was time for their rite of passage to determine if they were strong enough to become full pack members. It was the middle of winter, and Remus sent the four of them out for a month. If they survived, when they returned to the pack they would be adults and ready to serve their pack. It was incredibly difficult. Sebastian and Selim couldn't let bygones be bygones, and they almost got Deca killed. Selena attacked them, and for a few days they were divided, and went hungry.

At some point, Selim managed to track down an injured elk. It was old and weak, but still too strong for just the too of them. He somehow swallowed his pride and asked Deca for his help. He agreed, and they hunted the beast. It went well, like a normal hunt, until the last stage. Sebastian was chasing it down and Deca was about to jump in for the kill, when the elk suddenly spun, charging at Sebastian. Without thinking, Deca changed course, slamming into Sebastian and taking the brunt of the attack.

Selim caught up to them, and with his limited finisher training, took the kill. Selena was not far behind him with herbs and immediately got to work on Deca. He was bleeding in several places and his ribs were broken, but he was alive and conscious.

After that, Sebastian and Selim apologized for how they treated Deca, and the rest of the trip brought them closer together. When they returned to camp, all with new scars, Remus made them full members.
