Biography
ππππ π
Makoa waited with baited breath as the elk drew closer. His large frame shook with excited anticipation. No matter how many times he went hunting, he would never outgrow the thrill of it.
As Kaven chased the prey in front of the brush Makoa was hiding in, the large wolf leaped for the elk's neck. The creature stumbled as he bit down harder, and it was obvious that the elk was struggling in an attempt to shake him off.
No such thing would happen. He clamped down on the elk's neck, hoping to end it's suffering faster. The metallic smell of blood flooded his senses, and he could feel the warm substance on his maw. He let out a low growl and tugged, hearing a snap as he pulled out the windpipe.
Cheers erupted as the rest of Kitiara's Blade gathered around the prey, and began to drag it back to the pack. Makoa felt a sense of pride, knowing he had helped bring such joy to everyone.
Licking the blood off his maw, Makoa trotted back to the pack grounds, with his head held high.

Makoa's life started out in a den, much like that of any other wolf. His story was different. Makoa's real mother, the omega of her pack, was forbidden to have pups... yet she had done so anyways. Alone and hungry, Makoa was her only pup which had survived to birth. All the others had unfortunately died in the womb.
Weak and feeble, his mother feared more for her life than his. Maybe pups weren't the best idea, and she was just being impulsive. Deciding her life mattered more, she set the young Makoa on a rock, hoping a hawk or eagle would swoop him up, and made her way back to the pack grounds.
Then, the forest went silent. Nothing but the mewling of a young pup and the rustling of trees in the wind.
Fortunately for Makoa, a different kind of predator had found him; a wolf, large and brown, with serious green eyes. He cautiously approached the pup, and figuring he was abandoned, gently took the pup back to the Kohana Pack's densite.
There, Makoa was adopted by the brown wolf, who was Kobayashi, and his mate Camellia, the Alphess of the pack. He even had a brother! Though he was four years older than him, and wouldn't admit it, Takara cared deeply for his little sibling.
At the Kohana Pack, Makoa sprung to life. His troublemaking and obnoxious side sprang into action. He never seemed to stop bragging when he won until he lost again, and he loved to go out and sneak into the woods with his best friends Kaven and Vanalika. His brother Takara was supposed to watch him, but it was hard for one wolf to keep an eye on three rowdy youngsters, so Kobayashi never held Takara accountable for losing them.
Eventually, Makoa and his friends formed "The Troublesome Trio" as they were often called when found by Cayce, Kobayashi's apprentice scout. They never did anything terrible, though they often came back muddy or with their fur filled with twigs and branches. No one really got angry at them, it was just three pups having fun. The only time they were truly in trouble was when they ran off or did what they weren't supposed to.
Unfortunately, Kobayashi died when Makoa was still a pup. He felt saddened by the loss and shed a few tears. His father, who had found him, was now gone. He felt indebted to the brown wolf, and promised he'd make him proud.
One particular day when the trio had sneaked away from a distracted Takara, they had decided to adventure further than they were permitted. Crossing logs, splashing through creeks, and running through mud, with Vanalika eagerly leading the way.
"Are you sure we should do this?" Kaven said with an exhausted sigh. "We've been walking for so long, and my pelt's all muddy!"
"Sorry prince charming!" Vanalika says jokingly, hoping on a log. "But I promise, the view higher on the mountain is the best!"
Makoa glances to Kaven. "Race you there!" He says, before darting off.
The trio made their way higher up the mountain, and Kaven dashed ahead of Makoa about midway. Aware that Kaven is likely going to win, Makoa gave up and fell back to Vanalika, who was adventuring over every nook and cranny.
"Wait, Kaven, come back! And Makoa, look!" She eagerly wags her tail and peers over the edge. Makoa draws closer, and Kaven slides next to him. The pair looks at the view in awe.
Kitiara's Blade was out hunting. Chasing an down elk, the old but athletic Elena catches Kaven's eye. Makoa is entranced by Aoki, who he can hardly see blending into the bushes, waiting to pounce. Seeing the two totally into it, Vanalika smiles.
"I knew you both would love it! Now let's play hunter and prey, shall we?"
As they grow in adolescents, both Makoa and Kaven constantly trained together as they hoped to get a spot on Kitiara's Blade. Though she was by no means wanting to be a huntress, Vanalika was always more than willing to help them train, especially if it meant seeing a new part of the mountains.
When his mother Camellia died, Makoa felt the saddest he had ever been. Yes, he had been sad when his father Kobayashi died, but Makoa had more time and memories with his mother. This wasn't to say he didn't love his father, but he knew his mother better. As tears streamed down his face, Makoa felt hopeless. But there was a light at the end of the tunnel, as he recalled the time he had with Takara, Vanalika, and Kaven. Now determined to make the most of the time he had with them, Makoa left his mother's grave with a wave of gratitude and confidence.
Upon becoming adults, both Makoa and Kaven were invited to join Kitiara's Blade by the leader, Elena. Needless to say, they both agreed, and both Makoa and Kaven excelled in their roles. Even as an adult, Makoa felt especially proud when his brother Takara showed up, and even more so when his older brother would congratulate him. His only living family, Makoa and Takara grew closer than ever.
One particular day, however, Takara called a meeting. Makoa was a bit confused, as his brother seldom ever held meetings, much less ones involving the whole pack. But all of his questions were soon answered the golden wolf made his announcement.
"The pack is moving." He said, his green eyes sparkling with excitement. "To some place far from these cold, wretched mountains!"
Cheers erupted, though some wolves felt far differently. Makoa was one of these wolves. The mountains was the only home he had ever known, and both his mother and fathered were buried at Lassen Peak. Were they just supposed to leave? Why hadn't Takara told him? He felt a wave of sadness drown him as he tried to sleep that night. Finding rest impossible, Makoa's sadness soon boiled into anger. Takara hadn't told him. He hadn't thought about leaving their parents behind. All he thought about was what he wanted. Makoa felt betrayed. A growl rose in his throat as he rushed over to the alpha's den.
Despite being older, Takara was far weaker. Makoa barreled into him and pushed him over, furious at the golden wolf. Takara jolted awake, and then glanced up at Makoa.
"Makoa, what is going on?" Takara said, his green eyes narrowed. They were serious, yet not cold.
"You traitor!" He snarled as tears welled in his eyes. He began shouting at Takara. "Traitor! Traitor! Traitor!"
Takara's eyes softened. "Makoa, please calm down. Mother wouldn't want us fighting, you know that."
"You act as if you care about mom!" Makoa shouted, only now more angered. "Mom is going to be left behind! And dad too! I thought you loved them, cared about them. After all, they're your real parents!"
Now it was Takara's turn to be mad. "I do care about mother and father! But maybe you don't, since you won't listen to me. That's what mother always said, that we should listen to one another. Yet you always were so obnoxious! You can never see from my point of view, or just rationalize." He paused. "It's about the move, isn't it?"
Makoa turned away, feeling a bit guilty. "Yes."
Takara's eyes softened. "I'm sorry Makoa, I should have told you. But I'm doing this for the good of the pack, just as mother would have." He nuzzled the younger wolf. "It was wrong of me not to tell you, but both you and I know the pack won't survive here much longer."
Makoa shed a tear. "But there's plenty of prey--"
"No, Makoa." Takara shook his head. "Our stomachs would have been full, but our souls would have been empty. No one was happy here, not even mother."
The young, large wolf barreled into his brother, his tears falling freely now. He understood why now. It was for the good of the pack, not the good of oneself. As they left the next day, Makoa placed an elk antler between their graves. He hoped they were smiling down on him.
When they moved to the rainforest, Makoa was pleasantly surprised, though even he and Kaven found the terrain to be a bit... challenging. Most of the time, dinner was whatever Takara could find, and maybe a rabbit or agouti if they got lucky.
After Takara died, Makoa felt an emptiness he hadn't known had existed. He had shed the most tears he had known that day. Thankfully for him though, Vanalika and Kaven were there for him.
Even though they were adults, the "Troublesome Trio" still explored together, Vanalika in particular. Though she was no scout (she didn't want to be one) both Kaven and Makoa were aware she knew the area just as well as Cayce and Cerulea, if not better. They would explore, and a favorite spot of the group was a beach cove not too far from the jungle.
One day they, while they had been eating an agouti the two had caught, Vanalika noticed a flash of apricot dart by. "Is that an intruder?" She whispered to Kaven. The agile wolf shrugged, took one more bite of meat, and darted after the newcomer.
Easily, he had caught up to her, and quickly brought her back over to the group. Makoa was in shock. She was beautiful. Her hazel eyes looked away from the trio, and her fur rustled gently in the wind.
"Who are you? And what are you doing on Kohana Pack grounds?" Vanalika asked sternly. Her face looked nervous.
"I'm Gracieux." She said quickly. "I'm sorry, I wasn't aware this was pack grounds. I come from the zoo, I don't know how wild wolves were territorial. Allow me to explain..."
The trio spent all their time listening to her story. She had escaped the zoo after another wolf had dug a hole and the humans went to look for him. She took the opportunity to dig at the loosely-packed soil they used to seal the hole, and escaped. Makoa suggested they allow her to join, and while Vanalika and Kaven weren't too certain, Makoa assured them it would be fine since his alpha was the niece.
Makoa eventually taught Gracieux how to be a wild wolf. Hunting, foraging, patrolling, battling, and more. They bonded over this, and while she wasn't the best, Makoa was proud of how well she was doing. Eventually, he took Gracieux to the cove and confessed his love for her. The two became mates, and Gracieux fell pregnant not long after.
All good things come to an end, as Kaven died before Makoa's son was born. This death was hard on him, as he had seen Kaven as almost his second brother. But Gracieux, Hibiscus, Delja, and Wilden comforted the mourning Makoa and Vanalika, who gratefully accepted their words of kindness.
A few months later, Kaleho was born. Makoa and Gracieux alike were enamored by the little guy, as he had his mother's fur and father's markings. Makoa always told everyone how handsome the little guy was, which may have led to his rather conceited personality. Yet he was still loved by his parents, and he loved them.
As a pup, Kaleho often played with his cousin Wilden. Wilden loved the little guy, and proudly proclaimed him as "My favorite cousin!" despite the fact he had no others. Wilden would take him on adventures in the rainforest, the stories of them which would sometimes alarm his mother, Gracieux.
"Momma! Momma!" The apricot-colored pup bounded over to his mother, the brown wolfdog in tow behind him
"Yes sweetie?" Graciuex said, placing down some moss bedding.
"Uncle Wilden took me crocodile watching!" He proclaimed joyously.
"What?!" She exclaimed in alarm.
"Sorry Auntie." Wilden let out a nervous chuckle, nudged forth a crocodile egg.
As he became an adolescent, Kaleho expressed his desire to be a scout. Makoa proudly supported his desire, as he saw the same spark in his eye that he had when he had wanted to be a hunter. Kaleho always asked for stories of his grandfather, Kobayashi, who had been a scout. While Makoa didn't have many to tell, he would sometimes event stories to fuel Kaleho's drive. One day, Kaleho joyously returned with the great news that Saskia had taken him as her apprentice! They were both very proud of him, and Kaleho showed masterful skills in being a scout.
Kaleho eventually became a scout, much to his parent's joy, and Makoa would boast about his son's accomplishments. No one truly minded, as it was rather sweet he was so proud of his son, even if it was rather annoying sometimes.
For the most part, Makoa would pass his time hunting, but when he wasn't busy, he would often chat with his friends Kaven and Vanalika, explore with his son Kaleho, or relax with his mate Gracieux.
Makoa's life was surprisingly long and he was the first pack wolf to reach eight years. He died peacefully in his sleep, and lived just as long as his brother had.
