Mate of Ice
Mother of Dew, Pod, Mumble, Ash, Breeze, Finch, Wild, Shade, Winter, Spring, Rain, Shade, Little, Web, Lake, and Birch
The next Alpha after Splash. She hears whispers of strange voices in her head, but speaks of this to noone.
*Moon stepped into the Alpha role in a tumultuous time, with new creatures roaming the woods of the mountains Fierce Pack inhabits, reports of missing wolves from neighboring packs, and strange otherworldly whispers from the mountain peaks. She is afraid to ask her Herbalist, Snake, to travel to the mountain tops to investigate, but her mate and co-alpha Ice seems to confirm that something is on the rise. Moon had only hoped that her own packmates did not disappear, but several have disappeared since she has stepped into power. She refuses to let Snake commune with the spirits of their ancestors, afraid he will see their lost packmates.
*Moon's latest litter was seen as a good omen, with three healthy, beautiful pups born. But there is an issue. Moon had announced to the pack prior to the birth that she would choose the next Alpha from the females born to the litter, but the two female pups are so similar and yet so drastically different that she is torn in her decision. Hopefully she can make a choice before the pups become old enough to compete for her attention and choice.
*As the pups near weaning, Moon has not yet chosen her heir and has instead opted to train both of them, with the implications being she will choose when they have received their full names. This is causing unease with her packmates, especially the older members. Rumors abound that some wolves plan to leave entirely before fighting breaks out.
*As Spring and Winter grow nearer to their naming ceremony, there is much speculation amongst the pack about who will be chosen as heir. Many are already taking sides or making guesses, but as both pups have been passing their classes with flying colors it is anyone's guess.
*Moon surprised everyone by introducing a new naming system in combining a pup's parent's names to create a new last name that shows both bloodlines, but in doing this she has created more tension between her daughters competing to be heir, because she still refuses to make a decision. Many of the older wolves in the pack have left, and some of the middle aged wolves are discussing doing the same. Spring and Winter are trying to not let this come between them, but it seems their fights grow with each day, and it does not help that many pack members have a clear preference on who they wish to be chosen. Many wolves have already left in the night, leaving the pack bereft of nearly half their hunting parties.
*When Moon's heirs reached maturity, she made a rule that her daughters were not allowed to have pups with their respective mates until they had gotten a little more experience in true pack life. She assigned them to the same hunting team with their brother, Rain, and their mates, Blade and Thorn, in the hope that it will help everyone bond as one. Spring, thinking that she WAS mature enough, broke this rule and bred to Blade. Moon was furious, and declared that none of the pups from the litter would be allowed to be in the care of any pupsitters. If Spring and Blade were so mature, surely they could raise their pups to maturity on their own.
*While the pups made it to their weaning, Spring does not give the pups much attention except when she trains them, which is few and far between. Winter has been giving them more attention, and might be the reason they are surviving as well.
*Moon began to encourage her new herbalist, Sharp, to commune with the spirits to glean if they could advise her on who the new heir should be. They spoke nothing of that, but said Splash apparently said they should move to the Prairies. Moon obeyed her mother, and they now live next to the fishing hole at the river.
*Moon, reaching the end of her life, has still refused to name her heir, causing vicious fights to break out between Spring and Winter when she is not around. They bear the scars of these fights, and the younger wolves of the pack have taken to watching these fights to decide who they want to side with when push comes to shove. Other wolves, like Moon's son Rain and the herbalist Sharp, are disgusted with Moon's indecisiveness and refuse to pick a side.
Naming in Fierce Pack originally worked as follows: Adults joining the pack from the outside will be asked to pick their first name (ex. Gopher) and the Alpha will then pick their second name (ex. Underground, so the full name is Gopher Underground). Pups born in the pack are given first names by their mother and will not receive their given second name until they reach adolescence. Shadow, the pack's first alpha, made the rule that an alpha's heir will be given the same second name as their alpha, though her granddaughter Splash did not get the Alpha surname as she was named heir after her name, which is an exception that can be made. A named heir that steps down or has another pup chosen as heir keeps their name, though they may request a different name if they so choose. No other wolves may ask for a name change.
Moon's mother, Splash, began to lean towards 1 word surnames with the intention that bloodlines will carry that name onward. Pups could take either parent's surname depending on what fits. The naming ceremony still exists, but it becomes more personal with taking the parent's name, involving the pack more.
Moon started to introduce surnames that would combine parts of the pup's parents' names, including creating strange names for wolves adopted into the pack at a young age so that they could carry their own respective bloodline.
Wolves are allowed to breed within the pack as long as they can still fulfil their duties outside the relationship, though some take a life partner without ever having pups, others never take a mate at all.
