Biography
Owl disappeared as a pup. Her mother Icy Meadow was distraught, she left her other daughter Dust mostly to the care of Chalcedony, as she had recently had a litter of her own, so Meadow could spend her days searching.
Cub warned Meadow that wolves were disappearing from packs all over, Cub was doing everything she could to figure out why but she didn't have an answer yet and she was worried for Meadow, but she couldn't stop looking, it was her pup. It wasn't like Owl to disappear, she was always by her mother's side, Dust was the adventurous one.
In the time Owl was missing, Cub chose to give away pups to stop the disappearances, to protect her pack and all the others despite the costs. Meadow thought now of course Owl would show back up, she had to, the danger was gone. She spent nights outside that cave where the exchange had taken place, growing thinner and weaker, waiting patiently for her daughter. Muddy Stream would come visit her, bringing food and sitting by her quietly, despite Meadow barely acknowledging her or the food, an occasional glance or a nibble at a hare, Mud continued to come daily.
A week, maybe two passed, Meadow had lost her sense of time, when Chalcedony came by with Dust who sprinted over and nuzzled into her mother's side immediately, whimpering with relief. It took a few hours, but Meadow snapped out of the daze she was in. Chalcedony gently coaxed Meadow to stand, she was shaky on her legs and it took a few times, but together with Mud and little Dust bouncing at their paws she brought her back to the hollow.
Meadow was cared for by Fir, but Pebble spent time with her too, she had given up her pup to stop this horror and she understood the pain Meadow was going through, but Meadow didn't even have a mate to support her.
A few more weeks passed, Meadow was caring for Dust again, still distant and detached but she was eating and regaining her strength. She was just getting up for the morning, stretching and going to pick out food for herself and Dust, when Pond cautiously approached her. Her jaw fell slack, she stood completely still in shock when Owl appeared from behind his legs.
Pond explained that he had been out showing River around the edges of the territory when he heard a pup whimpering, he made River stay back, still cautious after what had happened, and he investigated. He found Owl tucked in a bush, she looked a little thin and her gaze was shaky, but she was unharmed. He started to say something else but he hesitated. Owl's previously white fur was green.
Meadow barely let any other wolves come near Owl, she cautiously let Fir check her over before taking her back from him and thoroughly grooming her. She groomed her a lot, she thought perhaps the green was something that had gotten into her fur, that she could get it off.
There was frequent whispers amongst the rest of the pack, where had Owl been, how did she come back, was she a changling? Meadow blocked it all out, refusing to hear a word, this was her daughter, her Owl had returned to her.
Owl noticed that she wasn't treated the same, especially by Pebble and Topaz, their pup had never returned to them, they wouldn't even look at her. She worried there was something wrong with her, her sister tried to include her but the other pups kept their distance. Meadow was always reassuring, she doted on her, wouldn't let her out of her sight. Pond and River were kind to her too, they understood what it was like to look different and to be treated like you don't belong, although they also would occasionally make mention of the faelcu and changlings.
Before she reached her first year, Cub came into Reed's hollow to speak to Owl, she was deciding on adult names for her and her sister, and she wanted to check that Owl wouldn't be upset with her name. Lost Owl, to remember the events that occurred over those few horrifying months, to recognize the loss as well as what they gained from it, Owl who returned, and the others who joined the pack like Marsh Reed, who had proven himself a strong leader.
Owl grew close to Reed, she took on a position as deputy to him, he relied on her to help look after the wolves who were under their care. They often stayed up late, either talking quietly in the hollow or going for a walk together, discussing the goings on and what needed to be done.
