Poor little guy got yeeted to the British isles, and had to find his way back home. But not before something… odd…happened to his fur.
Grim was the second melanistic wolf to ever be born to the pack, during Shadow's leadership. Even though many knew that melanistic wolves were the result of simple genetics, this didn't stop Shadow from being superstitious and from the others following her lead. Needless to say, Omen, the packs first melanistic wolf, immediately formed a bond with him, becoming a sort of mentor or uncle for the young pup. He always followed the elder around, eagerly learning everything the old black wolf taught him. He lived fairly contentedly in the pack for a long while, to his surprise, not facing as much estrangement as Omen had, and had even made friends with many other pack members. He eventually grew up to be a strong young wolf. He didn't have any job yet, like all the other young ones, and he didn't have any desire to look for a potential mate or to settle down. Preferring to lounge around and get up to the occasional shenanigans with the other young adults. It was around this time that Omen took him on a trip.
He didn't tell him where they were going, only that he needed to be patient, much to Grim's disappointment. After a long while of traveling in silence, Omen finally spoke up. "You know, I have a secret that I've kept for quite a long while now. So far i haven't told anybody about it, but its really an amazing place and i want to share it with at least one wolf eventually. I figure you might be old enough to be trusted with it." He mused as he put one of his black wings over Grim. Grim just chuckled. "Oh and what kinds of secrets would that be? A place to buy old man smell and creaky limbs?" He barked out laughing. Omen growled good humoredly before lunging and pulling Grim down in a tussle, battering him with his large wings. After a few minutes of roughhousing, they broke apart panting and chuckling before resuming their journey. "But in all seriousness, you'll be the only one I've told about this place. Call it a parting gift for when i go away. Ive decided to take a break and try out a new life in a different pack. I guess just the unpleasant memories here. But i promise ill be back!" Omen smiled with that sideways smile, and sad eyes he always had. Little did Grim know, this would be the last day he spent with Omen.
Their journey ended as they came over a large hill. Grim was surprised to see a large sprawling shop. It curious as the place was unusually quiet, and this was in a rather desolate part of the forest. It felt eerie here, Grims fur sticking up on end. He could sense a strange energy here, where the forest seemed unnaturally gloomy. "There's a lot you dont know about this world. The powerful forces and strong magic. All of the items here are full of it, so be careful what you touch or look at. And definitely dont go eating anything weird." Omen growled. Not elaborating on his mysterious message, simply forcing Grim to keep up with his brisk pace down to the first shops.
They spent most of the day there, perusing the many little shops and the wonderfully abnormal trinkets. Grim tried many times, asking the various shopkeepers about this place, but most refused to discuss, or were just as in the dark as he was, merely taking advantage of sales on these strange items. There were many things Grim wanted to buy but finally settled on a little crystal and a large egg. The egg would make a decorative gift for his long time friend Bloodstone, and the seller of the crystal said that if you ate it, your fur would grow out extremely long and thick. The idea certainly appealed to him, with his pelt being a single solid color, he needed to find other ways to look more attractive. After eating the crystal and seeing no immediate results, Grim at first was a little worried that maybe it had been a scam. The shopkeeper calmed him down and told him it would be a while for him to see any noticeable results. Grim and Omen soon left the shop, Grim a little skeptical about the crystal, but overall excited from the experience and wanting to visit it again.
It was after this trip that Omen parted ways with Grim and left for an allying pack. Soon after, Shadow finally succumbed to her advanced age, and the new pack lead, Aster took her place. Aster was much more levelheaded, more analytical, found superstition quite absurd, and was definitely much more kind than Shadow. Grim immediately liked her, and she found an interest in him, having never seen a melanistic wolf before. They became close, Grim finding a new friend after the loss of Omen. Things seemed to be looking up! Or so he thought….
Grim jolted awake with a gasp. His entire body was alive with energy yet exhausted at the same time. He was panting furiously, unsure as to what had caused such a rude awakening. He wasn't sure, but calmed himself down, and lay back down, giving his body time to relax again. He was rather shaken for some reason, it took him a while to notice that the smells of the forest were different than they should be… He opened his eyes, confused, and was startled to see he was in an unfamiliar place. He bolted upright, jerking his neck as he quickly turned in circles, trying to figure out where he was. The last thing he remembered was… he… he was having difficulties trying to put his paw on what had happened. His last memory was him in the packs camp, getting ready to go out and do something, but he couldn't remember what… the time of day was much different now, so a large amount of time had passed, but he couldn't remember anything! HIs ears pinned back and his tail shoved itself between his legs. He found himself too afraid to move, unsure of what had happened. He stood there for a long while, watching the sun rise and waiting for…something. However, the new day only confirmed what he feared; he was definitely in a very strange place. In a land he didn't even recognize, with very different plants, no trees in sight, and the evaporating mist peeled back, showing incredible rolling hills all around. Had the situation not been so terrifying, he would have found the scenery breathtaking!
He spent the day, carefully exploring his surroundings, going in increasing circles around where he woke up. He wanted to get his bearings, and the last thing he needed was to wander away from the only landmark he actually knew. It was when he was exploring an interesting looking rock formation when the scent of wolf pricked his nose. His ears shot up as he looked around frantically, and a tiny bit hopeful. Maybe they could help him figure out where he was! Or what was going on! He slowly started on the scent trail that would lead him to this new stranger, but made sure to stay aware of his surroundings in case he wandered too far.
