Pinefur

A piece of work of a wolf, Pinefur descended from the lineage of the first alpha of the pack and thought he was worthy of taking the title. Pinefur was enraged that he was passed over in favor of Pheasantsong, the son of Oakheart's adopted daughter. He tried to challenge the ruling, but was denied, even though he was Oakheart's own flesh and blood. Pinefur stewed in the background for years, even taking up a mate, Skydance, in hopes that she would produce a suitable heir. Yet, litter after litter, he was unsatisfied with the pups. In a final attempt to produce an heir, he chased off Eclipsestar so he would be the pack's stud. He managed to produce a few notable pups, but they lacked the distinct 'black blanket ticking' marking his lineage was known for. In the end though, none of it mattered, the alpha Pheasantsong, nearing the end of his life, nominated his youngest daughter, Flameclaw, as the next Alpha. Pinefur had to resist the urge to rip out Peasantsong's throat and ran, maybe hoping to die somewhere far away from the pack. To his surprise, Flameclaw found him, just hours after her father's death, to talk.
Pinefur had to resist sneering at that, this mongrel, barely in adulthood, was chosen over his many sons and daughters. Him, the direct line back to Alderflame himself! Pinefur nearly yelled this into the night air, years of anger exploding in minutes. Flameclaw let him continue until he had tired himself out.
Flameclaw told Pinefur that she knew, that her father had told her just before he passed. Peasantsong didn't choose any of Pinefur's pups because he knew that Pinefur didn't care for any of them. Many of them had the distinct mark, but were lacking in other ways in their father's eyes. They deserved to live their own lives not in their father's shadow.
Flameclaw then had a proposition for the old wolf. "Sire cubs with me, and put this feud to an end. When it's my time to return to the earth, I will choose one of them or their cubs to be the next Alpha." Pinefur couldn't resist that and agreed to come back on that condition.
In the end, Pinefur sired two, nearly identical girls with Flameclaw, Canarywing and Finchfeather. He passed on to the stars knowing the lineage of Alderflame was safe
