Reva was born one of five pups to the late alpha Akiljof of the Greyfeather Pack. Her life with her siblings was easy and full of play--their pack was large enough that getting food was easy and there was plenty of time for fun.
Not long after her second birthday, Reva's favorite aunt passed away of old age--it was the first time she experienced a pack death and, being a member she had been so close to, it hit her hard. She tried to continue her duties but, depressed and distracted, she inadvertently caused an accident during a hunt which badly injured her sister, Khushi.
None of her siblings, save Khushi, directly blamed her for the injury, but they kept it a secret from the rest of the pack as well, leaving the adults suspicious and Khushi's injury shrouded in mystery. Reva lost her happy, energetic personality and began to feel outcast and unwanted.
For a time she worked hard to make herself stronger, determined to win dominance over her sister Khushi and prove her strength and worthiness. Khushi was a strong opponent, however, and her other sister Kaveri never made it easy to move up the ranks. Every time she got close to winning a higher rank her sisters would push her back.
When she was three and a half, Reva caught the flu and the sickness swept violently through the pack. Although none of her family died, the illness took it's toll on her own strength and she was quickly beaten down the ranks by her sisters Khushi and Kaveri, and even her meek brother, Darshan, who had begun to feel that Reva in a position of power would be dangerous.
As the years went by she lived mostly on the social outskirts of the pack, excelling as a chaser but always feeling just a little unwelcome. She never tried to compete for dominance again, settling into her position in the pack as simple a state of being. Tensions between herself and Khushi continued to increase, however, when Khushi took on the role of the pack's alpha after their father died.
When Reva was caught trying to harm the pups of Khushi's first litter the attitude of the pack toward her went from allowing her a place, if distant, to barely tolerating her. Khushi in particular became increasingly aggressive--demoting her to a lower hunting team and taking every opportunity to put her in her place.
Reva had no desire, however bleak her position in the pack, to strike out on her own. But the increasing tensions were a ticking time bomb and when Khushi's first litter came of age the alpha female chased Reva out of the pack.
