Moon is trying to decide between her two daughters who will be heir to Fierce Pack
Spring is arrogant enough to assume she will be chosen as heir, and antagonizes her sister Winter until fighting breaks out. Moon has had to discipline her more than once growing up.
Finisher of Alpha Team
Mate of Blade
Mother of Mist, Sandy, Pike, Eagle, Cloud, Soot, Racoon, Fern, Beach, Sage, Stark, Chase, and Snow
Training Highlights:
Frost on a Puddle made a test for Spring, checking if she could recognize herbs presented during the first lessons. Being an herbalist is a huge responsibility when a mistake can cost someone's life.
Summer- Year 21 : Deep within the Prairie, there are three factions of wolves that are "at war". These wolves once belonged to one unified pack that called themselves Fierce Pack. This civil war started when Fierce Pack's last Alpha, Moon Walker, had two daughters that she favored equally and refused to name one as her heir. Upon her death, her daughters, Spring and Winter, fought over the right to rule, causing a schism with all wolves in the pack. Some wolves sided with Spring and others with Winter. A good number, including their littermate Rain and the former pack healer Sharp, refused to choose a side and wanted to settle things democratically. Fighting broke out and many wolves were killed or chased off. Of those that remained, they broke into three groups and spread out amongst the territory, bearing the scars of the fight.
Fall- Year 24 : Unbeknownst to each pack, three litters were born at the same time, one from each leading pair. Out of these litters, three pups were strange and otherworldly looking. The theories differ with each pack, but the consensus is the same: these pups were chosen by the spirits and must be protected until adulthood.
Spring's Pack: The Pine Barren Dwellers
Summer-Year 21 : Spring and her followers settled in the Pine Barrens, using the wooded area as shelter from the elements while they hunt the outskirts of the area, breaching into the flatlands and mountains to catch larger prey. Their sheltered advantage allows the wolves to nest safely, so Spring allows the wolves to breed as they wish in order to grow her pack so that she can surpass the size of her sister's pack. Spring has ordered the death of any intruders from the other two warring packs on sight and intends to take over the whole Prairie once she expands her pack. She has encouraged her wolves to kidnap weaned pups from the other two packs to increase their ranks.
Fall-Year 22 : Spring has decided that pups born into her pack will inherit their parent's role in the pack. Her belief is that the skills of the parents are passed on to their children easier, and mated pairs would be more incentivized to have "strong" pups if they would leave a legacy along with their name. It is understood that the pup would be apprenticed to their mother or father at their naming ceremony and will follow them in their day to day pack life. As an example, a pup born to a hunter and a pupsitter will either become a pupsitter themselves or a hunter, typically staying in the same hunting role as their parent as well. A pup born to two hunters is destined to be a hunter. Only one pup can be apprenticed to a wolf at a time, so if more pups are born to a litter than what can be trained by two parents, a close friend or relative will train that pup instead.
Winter's Pack: The Shrub Steppe Dwellers
Summer-Year 21 : Winter, despite her larger pack, ended up losing the fight for the best territory and settled across the river in the Shrub Steppe. They use their access to the fishing hole as their main source of food and travel up and down the river to supplement their meals. Many wolves go to bed hungry, and they are often unable to nest since they have to move constantly to avoid flash floods. Winter has a tighter control of her pack's actions due to this and only allows wolves to breed after they have reached 3 years of age and have petitioned her for her permission. In the winter they cross the frozen river to attempt to catch larger prey. Winter allows visitors from her brother's pack, but not her sister's.
Fall-Year 22 : A sudden influx in pups born and not surviving to adolescence have made Winter decree that wolves cannot mate until they are at least 4 years in age, and they cannot even take a mate until they have mastered their craft. This means that they are able to train pups on their own without supervision. The wolves of the Shrub Steppe are not surprised, and agree with the sentiment due to their heartbreak that they have experienced.
The Pothole Wetlands Dwellers
Summer - Year 21: These wolves, led by Rain and Sharp, refused to pick a side and instead opted to live as a separate group in the Pothole Wetlands. They travel further than the other packs to find food, and often some wolves do not return, either due to hunting accidents or by joining another pack in a completely different territory. Sharp has created a herbalist treatment center with his mate Peach on a larger 'island'. Wolves must travel here to be treated by Sharp and stay for a day for treatment. They cannot participate in normal pack duties until they return, and Sharp does not allow for fighting in his space. When he is not treating wolves, he is communing with their ancestors to seek answers for Winter and Spring, who visit him once a moon to gain answers to questions they may have. His interactions are having a strange affect on his appearance and island itself.
Rain and the other dissenters live in a nearby glade and often end up wandering around the territory in search of food, avoiding Spring's pack and sometimes sharing hunting trails with Winter's pack. Rain does not call himself an Alpha, and instead has a council that he makes decisions with. This council consists of the senior wolves of the group and they make decisions through democratic means. Pups born to the group are not forced to stay with their families in the Wetlands, some leave entirely and others go to join one of the other packs. They are accepted by either pack, though both packs have a task that new arrivals must pass in order to stay, the difficulty of the task depends on the age of the new arrival. The exception is pups adopted into the pack.
Fall-Year 22 : Floods ransack the Pothole Wetlands pack and their territory, forcing them to keep moving near constantly. Many wolves have died in these moves, and it is beginning to wear thin on their resolve.
Summer-Year 23 : Rain and his small pack decide that they should not force their pups to live in hardship because of their resolve to not participate in his sisters' feud. They decide to offer up their pups to either pack as new members after they age into yearlings. Both Spring and Winter are eager to increase their ranks, so they both jump at the chance to have new blood enter the packs.
Spring-Year 25 : After a devastating battle between the two sisters resulting in many older members dying, Winter moved her pack to the desert while Spring stayed in the prairie. Rain, seeing the conflict from afar, took his wolves to the mountains to let Moss, the new herbalist, be closer to the spirits.
***All three packs use the naming systems of their former Alpha, combining surnames to pass on to pups as they age. The naming ceremony is the same for all packs right now since they are so close in age and all come from a time where they all attended the same ceremonies.
