Biography
A former member of the Shards and Flakes. Alp was good at tracking scents, but he knew to respect Shale's headship at the time and follow through with what she determined. He was more passive than other wolves, but loyal nonetheless, and would often stand the voice of reason among his fellow wolves. He was deeply grateful towards Polar and the wolves Rime for accepting him into their pack.
Under her leadership, Alp was made outcast as a result of refusing to submit to Thermal. During that time, he and Shale hunted prey together and fell in love. Soon Polar returned, and Thermal was overthrown. Alp returned to hunting, and he became mates with Shale.
When he found out that Shale was pregnant, Alp had to lead the Shards, meaning he would have to hunt alone. However, Alp eventually met Dawn, a she-wolf who was willing to help him, and she was chosen to join the Shards. However, Shale is not so very trusting of Dawn, despite Alp insisting that she's only there to help the hunt.
Yet, as Alp works with Dawn, he ends up finding her difficult to work with, as she insists on taking the lead despite her lack of experience. Eventually, when Shale weans their puppies, her resentment towards Dawn really begins to show, and Alp finds himself caught between these bitter she-wolves. That was, until Dawn would end up mating and becoming pregnant by an outsider, leading to her outcasting among the pack.
Shale would eventually retire, and Hoar would take lead over the Shards. However, during their journey to the Tundra, the hunters formed a second group to accommodate their growing pack. While Alp would lead this new group, the Flakes, a freak accident occurred which resulted in his untimely death. He died trying to rescue his son, Bark, from a cliffhang, where he lost his own grip and fell.
He is survived by his four children: Bark, Coal, Pine, and Char, and leaves Shale widowed. Alp's loyalty and spirit will never be forgotten. Both Polar and Ravine, the Moonspeaker of Rime, would encounter Alp's passage in the Sleeplands, a new place for ancestors of Rime to reside. He would offer his blessing to his grandchildren, and continue to watch over the pack.
