Bloodfeather was a keen little boy who was anxious to learn and grow up. He wanted to be a great hunter someday and often met the hunting teams when they arrived home to ask how the hunt went. He knew he was different from the other pups, not because anyone said anything, but because of the looks he sometimes got from his elders. And some of them were less inclined to answer his questions than others. Blood was faster and more agile than he was smart, but he wasn't stupid. A look at his own refection in the creek next to his siblings and cousins told him what the difference was. But he was determined to prove his critics wrong and show them he could be a mighty wolf one day.
At the Academy, Blood was quiet and attentive to his lessons. In fact, his teachers said he was the best student in his class. As he went through his assigned lessons in agility and speed, he noticed that he didn't get the odd looks as much and more of his elders were nicer to him. When it came time to choose his final lesson, he chose Tussling because it would help him get stronger and impress anyone who still had their doubts about him.
During his apprenticeship, Blood was finally allowed to go out on the trail with the hunters. It was the thrill of a lifetime for him, even though there were a few hunters who he hadn't won over yet. And his initial failures didn't help at all. He was so excited that he sometimes made the hunt harder. But he calmed down quickly and buckled down to the work of a chaser. It wasn't easy, but his consistent effort was noted by his elders. By the end of his apprenticeship, he was working right alongside wolves who had wanted nothing to do with him only a few months earlier and earning their respect.
Now as an adult, Blood no longer needs to worry about being accepted. He was given the position of lead chaser right away because of his skills and the trust that his siblings and cousins have in him. He's incredibly proud of this but he doesn't brag. He just keeps his nose to the grindstone and works hard. The chip on his shoulder isn't completely gone, however. When fermented barley is passed around, he always takes one drink, even though he doesn't actually like it. He just doesn't want to seem different.
When Bloodfeather and Graywing were pushed forward by their siblings and cousins during the choosing ceremony of July 7, something special and unexpected happened. They glanced at each other and some unspoken communication passed between them. Each recognized their own insecurities reflected back to them from the other's eyes. Nobody else noticed the moment they shared, but as new Alpha Dawnbreeze accepted her charge and the celebration began, Blood and Gray made a deep connection that grew over the next few days. Before anyone knew it, they were head over tail in love.
