Biography
To put it simply, Flostrum is doing her best.
Her succession was not the easiest thing in the world. Ellegaard, by then almost alone and outnumbered by the inevitable problem of the New Generation simply outliving the Old, desperately agreed to appoint a young Pack leader, one that would be accepted by the New Generation as well. Many wolves were having puppies at that time, so she agreed to choose one from a litter.
Glaze gave birth to Flostrum and her brothers, Fletch and Frel, on a sunny morning. Glaze, being caught between worlds during her youth, showed strong allegiance to neither factions at the time, but as she grew up, she aligned well enough with the New Generation's beliefs that she was deemed acceptable of a wolf to align the next leader with. Initially, opinions were mixed on which pup would be trained by Ellegaard in the last year or so of her life to become a worthy leader, but Frel became victim to the pox and never truly recovered, whilst Fletch as an adolescent was stolen by a passing pack in the dead of night, though no one knows whether he went willingly or not. That left Flostrum as the only successor. Even though she spent the first month with this knowledge comforting her devastated mother, Ellegaard was soon to teach her what she knew about leading the Pack. In a way, Flostrum had entered a world where she was always destined to be alone, and even though Ellegaard did her best in putting away the bitter past of the Old-New Generation feud, she passed away as soon as she had predicted, plunging Enbarr into a time of unease.
Things were rough at first. The Pack almost went hungry twice, wolves fled because they hated the instability, and countless times Flostrum doubted her ability. Being young and effectively a leader ever since she was an adolescent, she did not have time to form romantic attachments nor much friendships, so her mother was her only strong pillar of support. Even when she became leader, puppies were a matter of duty, not love. Still, the guidance from her friend and current Beta, the otherworldly Mayserle who guided her paws visiting the strange, wonderful Dreamlands, coupled with the support of Glaze, managed to get her through her difficult years.
It took her until their duo quest to search for the Jellyfish that Flostrum realised that her respect for Mayserle had blossomed into passionate love. It surprised her greatly when she realised, curled up in the small cave the two wolves had bivouacked in on their way back to Enbarr, that she could not think of the other she-wolf as a mere friend, nor Beta, but rather, she wanted to be hers. But there was a problem - Mayserle had just consumed the Jellyfish...meaning that she was now Immortal, but Flostrum was not. At seven years, she was not exactly young, either, but she felt immense joy when her Beta confessed to feeling the same way. Though there might not be enough time for them compared to two young wolves in love, there still may be hope for them yet.
