Although certainly scatterbrained, Bear takes his job as Healer very seriously. He knows his pack relies on him and he refuses to let them down.


Relationships

Best friend: Dust
Having joined the pack around the same time, the two quickly became close friends. Bear often sought Dust out after a tough day of healing. Now with her gone, he misses her more than words can say.

Apprentice: Steel
It took Bear and Steel a while to find common ground, the two having vastly different personalities. In the end the two did manage to become good friends, and Bear is proud of the healer Steel became.


History

Bear wasn't with his mother for long. Once he was deemed old enough, he was sent out to live on his own, He wasn't an overly skilled hunter and struggled to survive. During one awful winter, he found Jet and his small pack of five (now seven as Snow's pups had just been born), the group living in the mountains where Bear lived. Fascinated by the group he begged to join them and has been with them ever since.

When out on a patrol with Snow he came across Herbert, a large bear who was gifted with herbs. Keeping his distance at first, Bear found himself meeting more and more with Herbert, fascinated by his skills and teaching. After a long conversation with his pack, it was decided that Bear would train underneath Herbert and become the pack's healer. Despite being a scatterbrain, he is uncharacteristically focused when it comes to his job, finding learning herbs to treat others to be an interesting and rewarding job.

Bear is a bit a loner, preferring to spend his days alone, foraging for herbs and making remedies. He has no interest in having a mate either. Just because he is a loner, however, doesn't mean he is lonely. He loves his pack greatly and is grateful he found them. While he doesn't spend too much time with his packmates, he always manages to find time for Dust who is the closest thing he has to a friend.

The pack's first two deaths were... hard. It is a Healer's duty to guide elders to the mountain's summit, so that their spirits may be guided to the afterlife. Opal was the pack's first loss. Bear had never been close to her, but it was still hard to guide a wolf to its death. The second death... Bear will never forget. He still remembers his heart skipping a beat when Dust told him it was time for her to join their ancestors. The climb up the mountain was both unbearably long and painfully short. He can only take solace in the fact that he got to be beside her until the very end, or her end at least.

Bear has begun training an apprentice. He knows he is getting up in years and wouldn't feel right leaving the pack without a healer. It wasn't hard to find a successor, a young pup, Steel, eagerly took the job. The only issue... Bear has no idea how to bond with this pup. Steel is rather quiet and very judgmental for a wolf so young. So long as the pup makes a good healer that's all that matters in the end, he supposes.

The two did end up befriending each other, and Steel did indeed become a good healer. On the 7th year and 6th month of his life, Steel guided Bear to the mountains summit. Bear enjoyed the company of his apprentice and knew he would take care of the pack once he was gone. Once at the top, looking at the endless sky, Bear finally saw his best friend again, Dust guiding him to the afterlife.
