A tumultuous plane of wild mana, unstable weather, and floating terrain, Zendikar is a world of incomparable natural beauty and danger. The plane is wracked by volatile seismic movements known as "the Roil." Violent shifts in the landscape make life precarious, unpredictable, and full of adventure. Rivers cascaded down from above the skyline. Craggy peaks lurch to crush those who would scale their heights. Lush forests and murky swamps grow over upturned ruins hiding ancient secrets. Massive stone formations known as hedrons, the ancient handiwork of the Planeswalkers Ugin, Sorin, and Nahiri the Lithomancer, remain as a reminder of calmer days on the plane. Days before the Eldrazi escaped.
The thick hazy cloud billowed out of the abundant coniferous trees that Zendikar called home. The pack had gathered in the small clearing and a hushed murmur could be heard. His subordinate Kamigawa stood in the front her gaze never breaking from the ever thickening cloud.
"Kami, have the scouts reported in yet," Zendikar's voice broke the murmurs down below. Her ears flicked in acknowledgment but her eyes never blinked away.
"Not yet my alpha, but I fear for them. I've never seen a fire quite this bad."
Turning to the packmothers Zendikar began to take action.
"Amonkhet, take the pups and their mothers close to the shores. Innistrad, take Ajani and gather what supplies you can. Regroup with the mothers down by the shore, we'll need you to keep everyone together and keeping everyone reassured," his voice was eerily calm despite the hazardous situation. The mentioned wolves nodded respectively and headed their separate ways. Jumping down from the tree hollow he faced the remaining pack.
"All hunters that run in the evening, go after the moms. Keep them safe, the air out here isn't right. It's sinister, and we need to stay in groups. Kamigawa take all of the hunters that run in the morning and start heading towards the glacial territories. Dominaria was last seen around there and you're the fastest we've got. I'll take the rest and go after Mirrodan." Steeling them all with a heavy gaze he began again.
"This terrain, what was once our home. Is no longer. You must proceed with caution. I'm almost certain this fire is because of the upright beings. We cannot let anyone get captured or killed," as he spoke the groups broke off in to their parties, with five leaving as Innistrad made her way out. The smoke was now filling the clearing and scarlet flames could be seen ripping their way through the forest line.
His elites remained and they fixed their gaze on their leader. "Our mission is to recover our scouts and regroup back at the shore, I believe in all of you."
With that Zendikar and his group began racing towards the blistering heat. As they entered in the forest, Zendikar realized his mistake. There was fire pelting through the air, barely dodging in time the little firey ball singed his fur. Letting out a small yelp he had noticed his pack was looking forward in fear. Following their gaze his heart dropped.
The winged goat creature was something of nightmares, scarier than any of the stories told by the elders to keep pups behaving.
The creature bellowed at the group and the group bristled preparing for a nasty fight.
"I will not kill you, if you can help me," the jersey devil's eyes gored in to Zendikar. They filled him with fear and awe.
"What is it you need," the question made the creature ponder for a moment before his eyes glimmered deviously.
"You will bring me the skull of your blood." A chill went through the pack as they realized his request. Thinking quick Zendikar thought of those passed before. Looking towards Tarkir he nodded solemnly.
"You know where to go, retrieve Borealis's skull." The tan wolf dipped his head and headed off in the horizon. Appearing moments later the lupine dropped the skull at the devil's feet. Appearing satisfied, he was off. The pack was somber after, the overlying threat hung ominously in the air. These new creatures were bad news, and Mirrodan was in grave danger alone.
