Biography
Aerdrie was Koriel's stalwart companion. She'd been destined to help him lead the Rose Lake Pack since the pair were just pups and they saw each other through thick and thin. She was there for him, and he was there for her — until he wasn't.
It started with strange animals appearing, and then rumors of wolves going missing. Koriel had been entreated to help find a wolf from some other pack in the mountains; he was never one to turn down another in need. He learned of fae wolves called the Faelcu, and uncovered a restless spirit who he found a way to bring peace to (to make a long story short). With that put to rest, he continued his investigation of these Faelcu - after the Rose Lake Pack was no stranger to fae, elementals, and the like. Many called it home! But even the best-equipped wolves could be led astray it seemed.
Aerdrie was left to guide the Rose Lake Pack without him, alongside raising their two young pups. She wasn't alone - she had her pack, but there was certainly a void left when Koriel disappeared.
*****
She was far from a young wolf when she was granted a newfound sort of freedom.
The leaves had turned and fallen, the winter come and gone, and the snow newly melting and flowers blooming when a newcomer arrived at Roselake. It in and of itself was not an unusual occurrence. All manner of unusual wolves came and went. This one, Calim, as he called himself, wasn't even the first winged wolf (that went to the unintentionally troublemaking faerie, Daybreak). But unlike every other wolf, Calim didn't simply stumble upon the Roselake Pack. According to him, he'd been following something, a wisp it seemed, from across the land until finally it drew him here, to Aerdrie, then finally disappearing.
Aerdrie believed the wisp somehow was Koriel. She couldn't quite explain how. But he vanished while investigating the Faelcu who appeared at the same time as the wisps, and now a wisp had brought a stranger from far away. Truthfully, Aerdrie found it to be a bit of a poor joke. Koriel disappears and brings... this? To the pack? He couldn't simply return? What was Aerdrie to do with a winged wolf? Most non-mortal wolves simply were allowed to come and go as they pleased, and offered the hospitality of the pack. What exactly did Koriel expect for her to do any differently for Calim?
Still, he was welcomed into the pack like any other. Aerdrie thought him a frivolous creature; sure, he had his uses. He helped on hunts, assisted with foraging, he took the occasional scouting shift. But when he was left to his own devices around the den, gods above what tomfoolery he got up to! Building piles of flowers, leaves, and feathers that inevitably would be strewn all about the den by wind and rambunctious pups, attempting to catch birds in the trees or on the lake (his wings did not give him the upper hand one would expect) and causing all manner of ruckus, and more. He called himself a "Frivolous Celestial" when confronted about his antics, but Aerdrie thought that "Idiot Angel" was more apt.
Still, something about him WAS endearing, she supposed. And Koriel had brought him here for a reason. AND he was eager to make himself useful... and loathe as she was to admit it, he was popular, surprisingly clever, and well-heeded by the other wolves. Aerdrie took advantage of that. Her pups were now grown, and with the comfort of leaving Calim in charge for short periods, Aerdrie took to enjoying the world in a way she'd never gotten to. Always, she'd had the burden of leading on her shoulders, but now she could enjoy some freedom, some relaxation. She could go for jaunts far from her pack. She could spend a day lounging in meadows, bathing in sunlight or rolling in flowers. She could stalk bees and butterflies. She could simply admire the migrating elk or watch a bear and its cubs. Though now an old wolf, she finally got to see the world through the eyes of a yearling.
She even met a charming foreign wolf on her travels, experienced the excitement of a tryst, of wild infatuation for a time. And then a few months later, welcomed a new soft, warm litter of pups into the pack.
It was true that she'd always love and miss Koriel, but she understood now why he didn't simply return, why he brought someone else to the pack in his place.
