Biography
"How lovely the silence of growing things"
Sage was born into a litter of four and was the only surviving pup of her siblings. The winter was especially cold that year, and it was a surprise she survived until the spring. Witnessing the cold deaths of her siblings as a pup with barely-open eyes, the she-wolf was conflicted in her role in the pack for a long time.
She began her training as a finisher and did well, but it didn't feel right to her at all. It didn't feel like the role she was supposed to be in. The pack was going through a rough time, despite it being summer due to the fact that their original herbalist, Lovata, had passed without training a young wolf under her. Motaki, an aging pupsitter took over the role briefly, though she wasn't happy about it. The pack needed a proper Herbalist to take care of them, and they didn't have it. Sage decided her own fate that night.
Sage, despite her near--muteness due to the traumatic loss of her siblings at such a young age, was as inquisitive as they came. She approached the alpha the night of her decision and stated her request in her quiet tone.
"We need someone, we need a proper Herbalist after Lovota to help take care of this pack. I want to be that wolf. I'm not cut out for hunting, not after everything."
The alpha took her at her word, and it was announced to the pack mere moments later of the important decision. Since there wasn't a Herbalist at all with them to help teach young Sage, she would learn the minimum from Motaki, then move onto an allied pack for an undetermined amount of time to be mentored under their Herbalist until she was able to confidently provide for her pack.
Months passed, and Sage finally came home, as quiet as ever, but filled with knowledge. She was as knowledgeable as Lovata, if not more, at her young age.
Some of the older wolves talk about whether or not she would have still become the pack Herbalist, if not for the loss of her siblings. Unlike Lovota, she had the training to also defend herself at a moment's notice, proudly having the strength of a finisher, although not nearly as good as the finishers for the hunting teams of the pack. Still, she was as smart as she was strong.
Sage, despite everything, wanted to help her pack. She wanted to give life and heal instead of shed blood, even though she knew the latter was for the good of the pack. She's proud of the young she-wolf she has grown to become and hopes to see her little pup siblings among the stars one day in the far future. She has to take care of her present family, her pack first.
