Tango was an odd case, he had a pack but he didn't spend much time with them as the other wolves considered strange, always having his "head in the clouds." Tango was a bit of a day dreamer with a vivid imagination and a vast interest in plants. Kyo knew the neighboring pack leader and took an interest in the young wolf with the strange hobby. It was fairly common for Alphas to actually sell members of their packs for whatever reason they wished, good leaders will always make sure the wolf in question is willing to go. Back the Alpha word is law and some of the more despicable natured wolves don't care who they are sold to as long as the price is right. Kyo spoke with the pack leader and offered some Silver Cones as payment in return for the ownership of Tango, seeing as most the pack avoided him anyway it was an easy choice. Tango was curious about his new pack but was thrilled when Kyo explained that he wanted him to become their packs healer and to train a cub of his choosing to eventually take over.
Being the packs only healer Tango quite often spent his days entertaining the pups as he made his rounds, which helped him choose the pup that would be his apprentice and succeed him when he retired. After all he wasn't a young wolf anymore. When each litter was born he carefully checked them over to make sure they were healthy, Kyo had given him the command to choose an apprentice but no cub seemed right. When Berryfoot was brought into the pack and adopted by Jesper and Firefly he just knew within himself that this pup would be his apprentice.
