Pineshadow was a charming little girl who wanted nothing more than to perform for her packmates all day. She sang and danced and put on little play acting shows. Her elders were endlessly entertained by her. But when something happened in the Pack, even a private thing, it was always Pine who ran around tale-bearing about it. And her elders were less entertained by that. She was scolded more than once for gossiping about packmates. Her elders said that she needed a job to keep her busy and out of other wolves' business. Her pupsitter Brightheart thought that being a scout would fit the bill very well.
At the Academy, Pine tried to be a good student while studying smarts and speed. But her attention-seeking nature got the better of her sometimes, not to mention her gossiping habit. She told everyone how her cousin Graywing had been so awkward during a Socializing lesson. But she got a taste of her own medicine when Gray told everyone about Pine face-planting in a mud puddle during a Chasing lesson. Pine swore never to gossip again, but the other pups wondered how long that would last.
During her apprenticeship, Pine struggled to deal with being away from home. She was used to being enmeshed with her family and she suffered from homesickness. Her mother Sunbeam encouraged her to stick it out and showed her everything she thought was so much fun about scouting. But it wasn't until one of their outings took them to an allied pack's camp that Pine finally started to come around. Sunny told her to take note of this other pack's dynamics so they could better understand how they work. Pine realized that this was just an official kind of gossiping and if that was part of her job as a scout, then maybe this could be fun after all. After that, her homesickness melted away and she began to really enjoy herself.
On her first birthday, Pine received her cloak from Sunny with a big smile on her face. She really had grown into her role and she basked in her mother's pride. Her future looked so bright and she was excited to see what it held in store for her. Her first drink of fermented barley put her to sleep so fast that she couldn't have any fun. She swore off the drink forever the very next morning.
Now as an adult, Pine really loves her job and can't wait to bring all the juiciest info back to the Pack. She still enjoys gossiping, but she knows what's appropriate to whisper about and what should stay private. She still loves to perform too and takes center stage anytime she returns from a scouting mission to act out her latest adventure. She leaves no stone unturned in her quest for a great story to bring home. And if she comes back with nothing but boring reports, no one is more disappointed than she is.
