Dawnbreeze was a dedicated little girl who was a natural leader. She was level-headed and thoughtful and the other pups looked up to her. If one of them was sad or in trouble, she was by their side without fail. With her elders, she was always respectful and obedient. But they said that her good behavior might actually be a bad thing. She showed no sign of the rebelliousness or mischievousness of other pups her age. She was too perfect and her elders feared that this could lead to a crisis later on. Her pupsitter Dustflight thought that even if she had a crisis, she would make an amazing Alpha on the other side of it.
At the Academy, Dawny was assigned to study smarts and speed to improve her weakest stats. She thanked her teachers for their help, but it was obvious that she didn't want to be there. When Dustflight asked her what was wrong, she replied politely that she had hoped to study wisdom instead of speed. There was some resentment in her voice, and Dusty understood. She promised Dawny that she could choose her last lesson. Dawny chose Howling and loved it. This time, her thanks to her teacher was completely genuine. Her sister Sandfur's support meant a lot to her and she said so. Dusty was glad that Dawny was showing signs of rebellion, but she feared that the worst was yet to come.
During her apprenticeship, Dawny finally exploded. She had wanted to learn herbalism with Goldenglow, but her cousin Lightningleap was chosen instead. Then Dawny was assigned to apprentice with Flowerpetal, the stalker, to become wiser. Dawny felt slighted and insulted. Why should she get wiser when she wouldn't be an herbalist? That was the last straw and Dawny became very defiant. She snapped at her elders at the least provocation and had to be held on the ground more than once for backtalking. On the trail with the hunters, complaining became her new pastime. Flower spent more time shushing Dawny than she did finding trails. Even Dawny's loyal sister Sandy avoided her and Dawny couldn't blame her. As her apprenticeship wore on, Dawny calmed down and didn't act out so much. But she didn't understand why her life had gone this way. Everything had been so perfect when she was little. She didn't know what her future held anymore.
On her first birthday, Dawny threw off the coat of sadness and anger to celebrate with her siblings and cousins. She wasn't sure why, but she felt hopeful again for the first time in months. She had real conversations with her family and reconnected with them, refusing fermented barley so she could enjoy everyone clear-headed. Sandy was by her side again for most of the time and the two of them kept the party going well into the night.
Now as an adult, Dawny feels like she's back to being her old self again. After the drama of the choosing ceremony, where her place in the Pack was revealed to her, Dawny had an epiphany and she felt the paws of the Ancestors on her life. Her depression lifted completely and she settled into being Alpha with the help of her family. She understands now that it's hard to be the "chosen one" and feel like you have no control over your life. But with faith in the guidance of her Pack and the Ancestors, she can stay on track and be the Alpha that her uncle Deerleap always knew she could be. She knows that her Pack relies on her to make good decisions for them and she's determined not to let them down. She trusts all her packmates to give her advice, especially Bloodfeather and Swiftfoot, but Sandy is the voice of her conscience.
