Like his half-brother, Tokal was once the favorite to be a leader, the pack's. After the loss of their first litter as a young couple, however, Tokal was heart-broken and drifted away from the pack for awhile, acting reserved. Faerel, though too dealing with this loss, managed to bring him back, along with the other members of the hunting party. In that moment he saw her as the shining example of his family's legacy, and went to Rultari with his recommendation that Faerel lead the pack, not him. Faerel had shown herself to be his rock to cling to in stormy waters, and he saw, as the pack did, that she could be that for everyone.
Tokal and Faerel would later lose another litter, after which Tokal began to believe he was the problem. They both wanted a family, and so adopted Mariet but still they wanted pups of their own. Later, Faerel would give birth to pups, and Tokal did not care that they were not his by blood. Caehanna, Epikaro, Eilna, and Dazana would never know any difference themselves, for Tokal was a good father to them, just as he was to Mariet.
